I am trying to determine if I should become Christian. When it comes to convincing people why Christianity and Judeo Christian morality is best, some Freepers do a very good job at it and some do an absolutely abysmal job. Some could convince an average American to get saved by Christ and others would probably just turn Americans away from Christ. I’ll leave it at that for now.

I think the notion that the BS was getting gov’t subsidies is what really did them in when it came to enforcing Christian morality within the organization.

They were using public schools, or public parks and law suits were brought charging that constituted government support/endorsement. Some insane Judges agreed with the complainers.

What is his stance on the religious freedom of business owners? Does he support the baker’s decision to not bake a cake for a gay wedding? Would he impose his sexual orientation on businesses???

Do you think this guy will not support the homosexual agenda

Well, he must be a Republican for some philsophical reason, so I don't know. I certainly can't make a knee-jerk judgement that that is automatically the case.

There are plenty of homosexuals who don't support "the homosexual agenda." Broad-brushing all gays into that peghole does not serve any useful purpose that I can see.

The fact is, many homosexuals are conservative in one or more areas of their lives, whether it is a belief in gun rights, privacy rights, fiscal responsibility, or advocacy of minimal government. Furthermore, many gays prefer to keep their sexual behavior where heterosexuals also believe it belongs: not in the closet, but behind closed doors as a matter for private, consenting adults.

It's just erroneous to imply or presume that all gays, or even most, support the militant, in your face, shove it down your throat (no pun intended) agenda which their more radical brethren espouse, and which all patriots can legitimately decry.

I'm certainly no fan of gays, but it's counterproductive to display blanket hostility by automatically presuming they can't be political allies at times. It's the same type of unfairness that leftists show when they hysterically stereotype all Christians as Bible-thumping, bigoted religious zealots.

I'm a Christian myself, and I understand that homosexuality is condemned as a sin in the Bible. But sin is sin, and we can stigmatize it in society while still permitting Free people to live their sinful lives as they pursue happiness as they see fit.

All of us have sinned, but few of us deserve to be criminalized, persecuted, or carted off to re-education camps just because some mob thinks we deserve it.

Gay gay gay

Marcia Marcia Marcia.

Seems like every 10th person and their grandmother are gay these days. It’s just so hip right now. Weird Al should make a parody of Huey Lewis’ 80’s tune, modernize his little diddy.

“Fiscal conservative Romney/Ryan.”

Well, after this week we know that Ryan is not much of a fiscal conservative.

“I don’t see it as such a big deal” Neither do I, as long as he supports individual Freedom, fiscal conservatism and is against 0bama in general...

Same here. But, alas - too many don't understand that social policies are the symptom of the disease and they will be vehement that you need to concentrate on social issues vs. getting to the basics in order to treat the disease instead of flailing at the symptoms. Build a more conservative base and the social issues will eventually take care of themselves. Keep wasting time on the symptoms and the disease will win.

Off topic, but in muzzie societies women & men are denied normal access to each other as a matter of religion. The result is rampant pederasty & homosexuality (and abuse of women).

Ask any disgusted vet who has been to Afghanistan.

The muzzies have nothing to teach us & they are allies of nobody but themselves.

Glad I left both the GOP and the Episcopal church...same reason. Too libby, trending gay. The next candidate will be a GOP gay running on Change and Hope to become THE FIRST GAY PRESIDENT! That’s probably a winning ticket in these times.

“Does that mean India, Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan,Sri Lanka,Japan,Vietnam,Cambodia and Singapore do not deserve to be called moral societies in the same sense that a Christian majority nation would? Or Iran back when it was still Zoroastrian?”

A quick study of history will reveal that the United States was not created by people from any of those places. Western Civilization is rooted in Judeo-Christian thought, and cut off from those roots, will die. Look at the nations you have named- are any worth emulating? I submit not. We have to remain on the foundations that the house was built on, or the house collapses.

24 Fair point. One caveat - a true conservative position on the Boy Scouts would depend on whether or not Boy Scouts get federal subsidies. ...

BSA has been attacked over the decades on this very issue. While the BSA never received grants from any federal agency directly into their national or local council operating budgets, at 1 time they did receive preferential treatment from the DoD.

SEP-OCT 1995 – Larry A. Taylor’s article, “How Your Tax Dollars Support the Boy Scouts of America”, was published in the American Humanist Association’s journal, Humanist. Taylor’s central theme was America’s obligation not to discriminate. He maintained that in a free society, a city should not provide a public service for but a portion of its citizens. The obligation of a public agency not to discriminate on the basis both of religion and sexual orientation is recognized in many communities throughout the country. He went on to provide details about how BSA programs used public/government facilities yet discriminated against homosexuals and atheists.

6/22/2005 - U.S. District Judge Blanche Manning ruled the Department of Defense (DoD) could no longer spend millions in government money to ready U.S. Army Ft. A.P. Hill (VA) for the National Boy Scout Jamboree (NSJ). The jamboree is held every 4 years and since 1981 its semi-permanent site had been Ft. A.P. Hill. The ruling stemmed from a 1999 lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Illinois that claimed the DoD sponsorship violated the First Amendment because BSA required members to swear an oath of duty to God. As a result of this ruling, 1 source claimed that ~400 Scouting units chartered on military bases were forced to transfer their charters off-post or shut down.

Penn and Teller - Boy Scouts (Full Episode) (WARNING – VERY FOUL LANGUAGE)
4/03/2006
run time = 00:29:33 minutes

The Las Vegas illusionist/entertainer team, Penn & Teller, premiered their 4th television season opening episode of “Penn & Teller: Bullshit!" The Boy Scouts”. Penn & Teller challenged the BSA for its exclusive membership policy — "no gays, no atheists, no women." They also claimed that the BSA was partially funded by tax-money and used public schools as meeting halls. Finally they claimed that since the early 1990s, BSA has been largely run by the Mormon Church.

31 ... But when that judge forced gay marriage on Utah and those Boy Scouts came out to give free pizza to the newly married gays ON CAMERA, that one did it for me. I always try to be reasonable but I have my own clear line. They were promoting perversion.

As near as I could tell about that incident, it was 1 contentious (yeah, I know, aren't all adult volunteers contentious) adult volunteer Scouter who was leading a group of youth scouts on that mission. The council scout executive had warned this 1 individual and others to not wear BSA uniforms at public political events, e.g. gay pride parades. I have not seen any follow-up whether the scout exec kicked this individual out of BSA. I rather doubt it.

Very well put. I hope you will continue listening to those Christian Freepers who inspire you. I continue to marvel at the wisdom I encounter when reading the Bible. Christians are commanded to be humble and strong. I can see how that could be confusing to non-Christians. 61

They identify themselves with their sex habits, it is their whole identity. This is a mental illness.

How about we stop giving federal subsidies to leftist groups instead? Why does federal money only go to leftists? Why does anyone sane consider this proper?

RE:”Well, after this week we know that Ryan is not much of a fiscal conservative.”

How about the famous Ryan plan?

Balances the budget in 10 years by reforming medicare yet no one retired gets their medicare cut, in fact he saves it.

And cuts taxes.

Everyone wins.

In all due respect, you are shockingly naive on this subject. Either that or you’ve agreed to parrot the Big Tent Republican line to garner conservative votes. But either way, no sale.

As is often said: ‘You can’t be a little bit pregnant’.

With all due respect, you are wrong on both counts. I simply categorically disagree with you. And it makes neither one of us less of a patriot.

Learn to live with that fact.
