Salvador Sanchez-Orozco penned a suicide note before squeezing his 2-year-old daughter to death and wrapping a dog leash around his neck in an attempt to kill himself, court records show.
The Tacoma-area man pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder Thursday in the death of Daveena Sanchez. Pierce County prosecutors also included a special allegation that the victim was particularly vulnerable, which opens him up to the higher end of the sentencing range.
Commissioner Meagan Foley ordered Sanchez-Orozco, 26, jailed in lieu of $2 million bail. He has an immigration hold and is barred from contacting his wife or her family, deputy prosecutor Phil Sorensen said. Sanchez-Orozco was placed on suicide watch at the Pierce County Jail.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the toddler’s cause of death but Sanchez-Orozco allegedly told detectives he sat the girl on his lap, wrapped his arms around her and squeezed until she stopped breathing.
“We never thought he’d do something like this. We never thought he’d go this far,” Frank Lima, the toddler’s great-grandfather, said after court.

His answer to resolve his marital problems is to kill the child . I do not know if he is in the country illegally but this refers to Family members said Wednesday Sanchez-Orozco had never shown signs of physical violence but talked about taking Daveena with him to Mexico.
Sanchez-Orozco ,did he learn dysfunctional parenting skills by example from his parents that he grew up and repeated what they did to him is what he did to his child only he took it further abused and murdered the child. If all he has ever known is abuse, that is the only way he knows how to behave. Human beings do not automatically know what is right and what is wrong; we have to learn it.. I notice of late everyday story after story there is about dysfunctional families & child abuse cases are becoming too common.Man I hope they put this animal down quickly and not wait 20-30 years.
May justice be served in general population
Somebody should just blow this male-bird-sucker’s head off and be done with it.
When you throw babies away like garbage, throw your parents in nursing homes, starve non-terminal (see Schiavo), disabled individuals and unplug grandpa on whim because you can’t be bothered, it would cost the families ‘time’ or he has money...
