We are facing an existential threat to our freedom and our way of life from a totalitarian-minded president, yet the Republican leadership in Congress is the weakest and most supine that I have ever seen. Bonehead and McCommie are even worse than Gerald Ford and Hugh (”the conservatives get the rhetoric, the liberals get the action”) Scott, the GOP leaders of the House and Senate, respectively, during the Nixon years.
That’s because old Hugh Scott had a patriotic attitude toward the country though his own liberalism, unknown to him, was undermining that patriotism.
