Ted Cruz Will Force Some Republicans to Vote Yes on Debt Ceiling (Cornyn whipping GOP cloture votes)
National Journal ^ | 2/11/14 | Elahe Izadi

Sen. Ted Cruz is about to make life a little more difficult for his Republican "friends."

The Texas Republican plans to object to a simple-majority, up-or-down vote on the debt ceiling, his office confirms. The clean debt-ceiling bill will then need 60 votes to pass the Senate, meaning at least five Republicans will have to join the entire Democratic caucus for it to pass.

Much of the saga over the debt ceiling has played out in the Republican controlled-House. But the Senate may not be without its own bit of drama. An aye vote on the debt-ceiling increase isn't exactly one that Republicans, even moderate ones, are itching to cast.

Good for Ted Cruz. He is a man of principles. Seems to me that some in the GOP would do well to pay attention. Too bad if their little feelings get hurt.

This is the right thing to do. Run Ted Run

Cruz is the only one who actually does anything to thwart the establishment and their games.

“wahhhhh! There’s a snowstorm coming! We have to vote on this quickly. waaaahhhh! It’s Christmas, we have to vote on this quickly! waahhhhh! It’s July 4th, we have to vote on this quickly!”

Make them vote up or down, Ted!! Good Job!!

Good. If there’s a republican out there in favor of raising the debt limit, let him or her be on record supporting it.

Cornyn will have no trouble getting 10 votes. McCain, Mini McCain (Flake), Ayotte, Collins, Burr, Chambliss, Johanns, Murkowski, Isakson and Kirk gets you to 10 no problem. They will all happily knife conservatives in the back in support of Democratcare.

Let’s see if Reid goes nuclear on this.

He won’t need to. Plenty of progressive Republicans in the Senate will support the Dems and Democratcare in their battle against conservatives.

Reid can’t go nuclear on this. Cornyn apparently whipped enough GOP votes for Reid.

I hope the voters of Texas will ask Doormat Cornyn why he is whipping votes for Reid.

Cruz is shining the stoopid party with a spotlight. The roaches are scurrying.

Not only is he forcing the RINOs’ hand, he is also keeping Reid from allowing a few Democrats off the hook. Reid had 4 (or even 5 if Biden was around to break a tie) passes to vote against the debt increase to hand out to vulnerable Democrats. Now he needs all of them to vote for the higher debt limit.

I hope the voters of Texas will ask Doormat Cornyn why he is whipping votes for Reid.

I'm sure that Cornyn's betting that most Republican voters in Texas will be blissfully unaware of how he's helping Harry Reid to hand Obama yet another blank check, and that come election time, they'll be mesmerized by all of his gooey commercials.

I just hope his primary opponents don't let him get away with this treason.

meaning at least five Republicans will have to join the entire Democratic caucus for it to pass.

******************

The sad thing is that five will most likely appear. But at least they will be on record.

True, but who will remember their treason when they're up for re-election? Few, if any. That's how these quislings get away with this sort of thing.

The cloture vote will be interesting. Cornyn is probably whipping additional GOP cloture votes to try to protect some of their favored RAT friends.

You know he is. And right before his primary contest in Texas. Unbelievable.

Cornyn is also doing a fundraiser with Karl Rove in a few days. He is definitely not on the side of Texas conservatives.

The usual RINO suspects are always more than happy to vote the way Hairy Reid dictates.
