I’m actually glad that my grandparents and great aunts aren’t alive to hear that, given that they did MOST OF THE WORK.

Among some American Indian tribes, farming was "women's work."

I recall an article, probably from the early 1970s, about the Seneca Indians of upstate New York, who had a reservation dating back to the George Washington administration. None of the men wanted to be seen doing farm work because that was "women's work," so they had planted rows of trees between the properties so that a man could do farm work without anyone else being able to see him do it.
