Obama: 'That's the Good Thing as a President, I Can Do Whatever I Want'
The Weekly Standard ^ | 10 Feb 2014 | DANIEL HALPER

President Obama "quipped" today during a visit to Monticello with the French president, "That's the good thing as a President, I can do whatever I want."

Via the pool report:

Monticello

At 4:45 POTUS and president Hollande walked out from a portico and strolled in Front of your pool with Leslie Bowman, president of the Monticello Foundation. Looking at a terrace she said that Jefferson loved to admire the landscape from there. POTUS said that he'd like to take a look and seemed delighted to "break the protocol". "That's the good thing as a President, I can do whatever I want" he quipped, walking to the terrace with his guest and Ms. Bowman. Pool now in the mansion as the leaders will come and visit Jefferson's study.

The comment came around the time the White House announced it would be delaying the Obamacare mandate for some businesses unilaterally.

The French president is here in the U.S. on a state visit.

More notes from the pool:

Monticello POTUS and pres Hollande paid a short visit to the study as your pool was looking through an alcove over president Jefferson's bed. They admired contraptions invented by Jefferson to read and write more efficiently such as a lectern and a "polygraph". Hollande noticed that one of the books was written in French.

In context, it's making a mountain out of a molehill...

He obviously was talking about breaking protocol during the visit...

Of course it's his attitude about it that is disturbing, because his actions as POTUS back up this attitude in general...

“Obama is mistaking himself for Reichskanzler.”

Good call! (Okay, I had to look it up... but still a good call!)

Pretty much the way it is. Too bad. I know some people who are very regretful of their 2008 vote, but my opinion of them is pretty low. Now, 2012 voters can %^&# my @&(!.

One can only hope that this President visited Jefferson's grave site and read the story of how the epitaph on his grave marker came to be:

From the Monticello site:

"Before his death, Thomas Jefferson left explicit instructions regarding the monument to be erected over his grave.  In this document (undated), Jefferson supplied a sketch of the shape of the marker, and the epitaph with which he wanted it to be inscribed:

"...on the faces of the Obelisk the following inscription, & not a word more:

Here was buried
Thomas Jefferson
Author of the Declaration of American Independence
of the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom
Father of the University of Virginia

"because by these," he explained, "as testimonials that I have lived, I wish most to be remembered."

Jefferson further instructed that the monument was to be made of "coarse stone...that no one might be tempted hereafter to destroy if for the value of the materials."[1]

Perhaps a reading of:
1) the Declaration of Independence from the edicts of a government and King George III and a people's right to reject them, including a statement of the Creator-endowed life, rights and liberty of individuals, and an acknowledgement of Divine Providence and the Supreme Judge of the world;
2) the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom; and,
3) Jefferson's own record of Board Minutes from the UVA indicating that THE FEDERALIST essays were to be taught in its law school as the best explanations of "the People's" Constitution--
these three things for which Jefferson wished most to be remembered would, in themselves, be instructive for all Americans as to vast difference in philosophy and leadership of President Jefferson and that of President Obama.

On another note, what is this supposed to mean?

What Jefferson used; in fact may have invented, was a pantograph.

***
Thank you for mentioning that. I have had the honor of visiting Monticello, and I knew that “polygraph” was not correct, but I could not remember what it actually was called.

Wouldn’t you think the idiot reporter would have looked into it before reporting? I know, silly question, given today’s level of journalism.
