I do agree with you that California has too many state agencies. The California ag commissions are overseen by the state but are self funding through per carton assessments on the produce. The purpose of the commissions are to set marketing orders to insure a standard of quality and to fund crop specific research. I serve on the Artichoke Commission and my position and that of my fellow board members is without compensation.
