If a widespread pattern of [knock-and-announce] violations were shown . . . there would be reason for grave concern."

—Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, in Hudson v. Michigan, June 15, 2006.

Got this link from my son. We have an ongoing (several years) discussion of this topic under the email subject line:

See Something, Say Something

Police has militarized in this country.

SWAT is simply a manifestation of this general trend than also includes M4s, armored vehicles, changing to more military like uniforms, etc.

The CATO map misses tons of incidents that just don’t make the paper...wonder what the map would look like if ALL documented incidents were posted?

Remember Elian Gonzalez? Those guys all got awards. Shoulda been fired. At least their pictures should have been posted in the paper-when people read them.

Ankeny, Iowa (just north of Des Moines) was one of the more recent.

wolfie could blow this map up and put it on the wall over his bed. It might ‘work’ better for him than his old Nazi Germany Jackboot Gestapo ones..............

And all of this ‘’militarization’’ is because of the war on drugs.

Quasi-military or pseudo-military would be more honest.

I’ve posted this link in multiple “raid gone bad” threads.

Worthwhile post, though.

“Police has militarized in this country.”

Let me help. Idiot conservatives are too lazy to get off their fat asses and elect a pro-2nd amendment, Constitutional sheriff in their counties.

I have one in my county.

Two police chiefs who harassed vets were driven out of the county by the sheriff. A dozen leftist commie council members who appointed these fascist chiefs were either thrown in jail or run out of the state.

Wake up, people. Get involved in local politics.

The deeper reason this is so disturbing is that peace officers are not something that can be dispensed with. There really, actually IS a “thin blue line” that preserves civilization on a day-to-day basis. So turning them into storm troopers isn’t just a storm trooper problem (admittedly a rather large problem all in itself), it’s also the loss of the absolutely crucial peace officer. So it’s a double whammy, and especially dangerous because of that double hit.
