More than one in six men ages 25 to 54, prime working years, don't have jobs—a total of 10.4 million.

Funny what they consider prime, at 57 I still consider myself in my prime working years, sadly employers think I'm too damn old and too damn White. No one is stupid enough to outright say those words but the unspoken has been clear enough from their comments and questions.

And you also likely have ten times the experience and wisdom of the new 30 somethings they are so hell bent on hiring to replace you, so they can save a buck. Then they wonder why their companies start going downhill and everything is a total disaster.

I had to look for work after getting laid off at age 53. Took three years to get back to a position close to where I was and I blew through my severance and most of my retirement funds trying to stay afloat. I may be “underemployed” of what I am truly capable of but feel blessed by God to have survived the worst of it.
