What happened to the cries from the media and these inner city animals that the areas where the vermin lived were now "food deserts" because grocery store chains were pulling out of their neighborhoods?

was the title in Grist, apparently a leftist mag.

Search by, "food deserts in America".

Funny thing is, in New Hampshire, the White Mountains National Forest is considered a "food desert". Nobody lives there.
