Freeing Workers From the Insurance Trap [NY Times: 2.5M Fewer Full Time Workers is a Good Thing]
New York Slimes ^ | 02/05/2014 | The Editorial Board

Posted on 02/05/2014 5:39:11 AM PST by SeekAndFind

The Congressional Budget Office estimated on Tuesday that the Affordable Care Act will reduce the number of full-time workers by 2.5 million over the next decade. That is mostly a good thing, a liberating result of the law. Of course, Republicans immediately tried to brand the findings as “devastating” and stark evidence of President Obama’s health care reform as a failure and a job killer. It is no such thing.

The report estimated that — thanks to an increase in insurance coverage under the act and the availability of subsidies to help pay the premiums — many workers who felt obliged to stay in a job that provided health benefits would now be able to leave those jobs or choose to work fewer hours than they otherwise would have. In other words, the report is about the choices workers can make when they are no longer tethered to an employer because of health benefits. The cumulative effect on the labor supply is the equivalent of 2.5 million fewer full-time workers by 2024.

Some workers may have had a pre-existing condition and will now be able to leave work because insurers must accept all applicants without regard to health status and charge premiums unrelated to health status. Some may have felt they needed to keep working to pay for health insurance, but now new government subsidies will help pay premiums, making it more possible for them to leave their jobs.

I thought congress needed exemptions for their staffs so they could hold their workers tightly in that killer "insurance trap" set of employer handcuffs?

Their words never match their actions.

“You haven't been laid off, you’ve been 'economically incentivized!' See how nice?”

LOL----good one.

The Chi/Con artists in the WH musta read The Madoff Playbook. Remember when Sen Mike Enzi (R-Wyo) reported that the Boobamba con artists were planning to "aggregate the numbers" so employers could not evade Boobamba/Care law by having fewer employees?

LOL......"Aggregating The Numbers"----a con phrase if there ever was one. Like something Madoff told his investors as he was setting up tax-evading secret offshore accounts......money-laundering and wire-transferring stolen money into a labyrinth of assorted crooked entities.

==============================================

THE HEALTHCARE CON GAME UP CLOSE E-v-e-r-y lock-stepping Democrat voted for O/Care in a straight party-line vote---nationalizing 1/6th of the US Economy into a Democrat Cash Cow. ALL the untraceable O/Care money from enrollments, fines, penalties, taxes, fees, and asset confiscation (from Medicaid users) goes to your "reliable, trustworthy government."

"LETS MAKE A DEAL, DEMOCRATS." Vote aye now.
When the zillions start rolling in, you get a piece of the action.

What good news! The ADP report this morning notes the drop in employment which is a wonderful thing now that ObamaCare provides insurance. Of course, finding a doctor to take it is a problem.

Just think! Hours of leisure to travel, pursue hobbies, and create things. You need money to pursue those dreams.

Maybe the White House can come up with a program for this?

Obama can subsidize all sorts of leisure activities through another tax on the unfortunate few who still work full time.

All the same, I trust Dr. Ben Carson and his Save Our Health Care effort more than I trust the Propagandist Board at The Slimes.

“(The Healthcare bill is) about jobs......it will create 4 million jobs in its life — with 400,000 jobs created almost immediately.” -then-Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi, ObamaCare's top cheerleader.

===================================================

As far back as 2008, at the presidential debate in Nashville, Democrat candidate Obama advanced his signature healthcare plan---ultimately enacted, by an historic straight Democrat party-line vote, into the "Affordable Care Act"

QUOTING 2008 OBAMA: "No. 1, let me just repeat, if you’ve got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it. All I’m going to do is help you to lower the premiums on it. You’ll still have choice of doctor.” Repeated over and over ---- with the promise that every American family would be saving $2500.00 on healthcare costs.

Significantly, Obamba NEVER corrected lock-stepping Democrats, all reading from the same Democrat talking points, all of them repeating the same Democrat promises---over and over again.

LOCK-STEPPING PARTY LOYALTY NOT SEEN SINCE 1930-40's ERA EUROPE Obama And the Dems marched in lockstep.....the persistent Dumbocrat drumbeat ---- in obeisance to Obama ---- kept ringing reassuringly in our ears: "If you like your plan, you can keep your plan."

Obama/Care passed by an historic straight party-line Democrat vote.

You have to read the headbangers in the comment section.

Yeah, this really works for the low wage workers. They will finally have the freedom to live their dreams of travel, creating a business, or art for that matter. With what money, who knows? Maybe they have a Fund-the-Fun tax in mind. The White House can call it O!HappyCare!

People will succumb to a soul-killing lethargy from the hopelessness of never being able to get ahead in life.

Dream on libs.

The more I read and study, the more pity I feel for Nancy Pelosi and the rest.

I do not even want to think about the eternal "reward" she's earning for herself, but it helps me to find compassion and forgiveness for her and those like her.

I want to say that she's been made blind and doesn't know what she's doing, but as a self-professed Catholic, she probably has far more formal religious background and understanding than I do.

Poor, pitiful Nancy. Not much time left, girl, to rid yourself of that serpent coiled inside you. Better to repent on this side, than pay the eternal price on the other.

That’s how Nancy Pelosi sold it before the vote.

You will have the freedom to leave your job on the loading dock and follow your hearts desire to become a street mime.

What Liberals refuse to address and the media refuses to stress - There still must be a huge number of people who cannot make that decision (to work fewer hours) because SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO WORK FULL-TIME AND PAY FOR THEIR OWN HEALTH COVERAGE, SO THEY CAN PAY FOR ALL THOSE “FOLKS” WHO DON’T WANT TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN!

GOOD GRIEF! Another issue where the Dems will be perceived as being on the side of “CHOICE”, while Republicans wage a “War on Workers”!

The new mantra by the Obama cabal reminds me of the first episode of the animated series “The Tick,” when Arthur is fired from his accounting job. His boss says something along the lines of:

“We’ve decided to give you the opportunity to explore alternative career paths.”

WHAT am I missing here? So these people quit their jobs and stay home because we are going to subsidize their health insurance premiums. They have no other living expenses?
