Whistleblower cop Frank Serpico remembers the night he took a bullet to the face — even if the NYPD continues to ignore it.

One day after the 43rd anniversary of his near-fatal shooting, Serpico, 77, said he has yet receive his long-delayed Medal of Honor certificate, which typically accompanies the medal.

Serpico was given the NYPD’s highest award, the Medal of Honor, in 1972. But the medal wasn’t given at a ceremony; it was dispensed over a counter top, he recalled. In a statement, he said was tired of “waiting for the NYPD to overcome their pettiness and animosity.”

If you’ve never seen the movie, go rent it asap. One of Pacino’s best works.

Cops have the same psychological profile as the criminals they are allegedly protecting us from.

They both believe they are above the law.

If Serpico was blowing the whistle on these dip sticks in the 70s, then this is a lot worse than I thought. They have had 40 years to grow even more corrupt. I used to be a supporter of the police. Not any more. Now I think the 90% of the bad ones, give the 10% of the good ones a bad name.

Definitely. One of Pacino’s best, and I’d say one of the best films of the 1970s. Sidney Lumet was on fire during the period, cranking out masterpiece after masterpiece like most people change their socks.

It is a great book as well; a real eye-opener, and a look into how the city was just falling apart...
