Sen. Harkin Falls For Cuba's Health Care Propaganda
Investors.com ^ | February 4, 2014 | IBD Editorial

Sympathizer: Tom Harkin, or "Comrade Harkin" to some, says Cuba's health care system is "remarkable." Maybe a better name for Iowa's senior senator, would be "Useful Idiot," a term the USSR used for gullible leftists in the West.

Harkin, a Democrat, recently spent a week in Cuba, apparently taking in all that the island prison has to offer. On his return, he told reporters that Cuba is a "poor country" — did he think they didn't know this? — but gushed that "they have a lower child mortality rate than ours."

"Their life expectancy is now greater than ours," he said. "It's interesting — their public health system is quite remarkable."

Yes, right, because Cuba would never fudge its data to make itself look good. Communist dictatorships don't traffic in propaganda. It's just not in their DNA.

The National Journal reported that "Harkin, who made a 186-mile trek over the course of three days, also cited low infection rates in Cuban hospitals and the country's success in reducing smoking among citizens through public health campaigns."

Did it occur to the chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee — who made the visit, according to the National Journal, "to check out how other countries are doing when it comes to public health" — that maybe he was given the VIP tour of Potemkin clinics and kept away from the wretched facilities that regular Cubans have to endure? Apparently not. Let's take Harkin's points one at a time.

First, anyone who trusts Cuba's official government data should not shop for bridges.

In 2011, the United Nations Development Program placed the country in a category reserved for those whose data are not reliable, putting Cuba in a group that includes Iraq, Somalia and North Korea.

Only socialism, communism, and the other collectivist left-isms can make use of idiots. That’s because they’re suited only for ruling over a population comprised of idiots.

Capitalism has no use for “useful idiots.”

I don’t know how useful Harkin is, but he certainly is an idiot.

Harkin has been a communist sympathizer since the VN war. He was part of the team that “discovered” the Con Son Island prisons they claimed as “Tiger Cages”.

The whole thing was a hoax. He was joined by Don Luce, an IVS leader in Vietnam who went over to the reds and Khomeini and never came back. THe others were Rep. Augustus Hawkins (D-CA), an admitted former member of the CPUSA (sometime in the 1940s. No details from Hawkins other than this).

The other was Rep. Andrew Jacobs (R?-Ill). At least I think this was the other guy. He was a liberal and didn’t know what they hell they were pulling over his eyes.

Harkins also was a top supporter of the Sandinistas in Nicaragua and the FMLN in El Salvador, among other communist causes.

You can find significant information on his communist connections at www.keywiki.org and www.DiscoverTheNetwork.org.

The old biweekly newsletter “The Pink Sheet on the Left”/American Sentinel” also carried numerous articles about Harkin. Unfortunately it is not online yet.

The Capitol Research Center (spell Capitol also as Capital re googling purposes if necessary) also had him in lists of supporters of various leftist organizations.

He briefly shows up in S. Steven Powell’s book “Covert Cadre: Inside the Institute for Policy Studies”, about 1986.

Harkin has been “red for decades. The sooner he dies, the better for America’s security.

You do understand that they cook the books, Senator, particularly the books that they show to you -- I guess not.

Even though Cubans can't afford to buy 32 ounce soft drinks to get fat, can't afford crack cocaine, and aren't allowed to buy guns for the drive-by shootings so popular in Democrat cities in the US -- they still don't live as long as we do.

Oh, my. Hailing from a Democratic [sic] Party that deals in wall-to-wall lies and perpetual deceit, does he not suspect Cuban propaganda to be faked from start-to-finish? (Alternatively, might he be going along with the "gags"?)

Being a liberal means that you can...

1. Believe what you want to believe, contrary to what the facts might be.

2. And disbelieve what you want to disbelieve, contrary to what the facts might be.

Liberalism is a religion; it is supported by faith, not facts.

Tom Harkin is every bit the communist that William Ayers is.

The “mortality” Harkin mentioned is bogus. In the US, we allow “at-risk” children to be born. In Cuba, they're aborted and thus not counted in the statistic.

History repeats itself. The NY Times sent a reporter to Stalin’s Russia, and he came back saying it was awesome

His name was Walter Duranty, and the American people followed his every word.

The dream of a society in which everyone is equal has become real in Cuba. Everyone gets $20 per month plus a ration card.

Pathetic isn’t it? Both Harkin and Kerry just thought we could all get along with commies. Thank G-d for Ronald Reagan.

I went to a meet and greet for a repub. canidate back in 2008. One of the attendees seemed to be a DUmp-monkey sent in with DNC talking points.

Every time the Bech (the canidate) mentioned healthcare, the fat sack-of-s*ht DUmmie started spouting “Cuba, free health care” crap. Finally sick of it and poor Bech’s attempts to be polite to lard-ass, I butted in and silenced the DUmmie:

“Which way are the rafts going?”

Everybody laughed and the interruptions stopped.
