Obey the speed limit.

A friend of mine picked up a speeding ticket one early Sunday morning in a phantom construction zone over there. Cost him a small fortune - $400 IIRC. Apparently this is a "profit center" for Illinois govt to tap money from out of staters.

Illinois, being a bedrock of Democrat electoral vote strategy, will (along with Cal and NY) get federally guaranteed state debt. So their final reckoning will be delayed probably until that of the US as a whole.

My wife and I would like to move out of Illinois, but she's back in school and my job is pretty secure. We are renting now to allow a quick getaway, though.

We are better off than most in our Central Illinois area. It is sad to see just how far things have gone downhill from liberal Republicans and Democrats for ages. The Collar Counties always push the RINOs, while Downstate pushes more conservative candidates.

It's never enough to overcome Cook County/Chicago's real and fake voters.

One of my cousins who used to be a former long-haul trucker loathed driving to Illinois and was especially contemptuous of the state police.

He fueled up prior to crossing the border and endeavoured to never spend a dime there.

I’ve heard Illinois is so slow paying vendors that nobody will accept the state troopers fleet gas cards. Say what you want about Michigan, as bad as we are we do have a balanced budget amendment. Michigan is currently sitting on a 1.5 billion dollar surplus. Detroit, Flint and Saginaw are still pretty much trainwrecks, though.

Illinois is very slow in paying vendors who provide goods and services to the state. Some have waited up to 18 months for reimbursement. If I was a vendor to the state, I would tell them that you won’t get any goods or services until you give my company cash up front. No credit — cash only. Let the state bureaucrats find the cash or do without.

Unsuprisingly slow. However if you slide on over to Hamtramck, business is booming.

“Socialism sounds pretty good until you have to actually live under it.

Then it is not so much fun anymore.

Hey - what is the first thing a public union goon does when he retires after 20 years of working on a OT spiked pension with free medical care for life that is now tax free due to his/her “disability?”

A: Move to a low tax and right to work state.”

You hit on a key area that needs to be emphasized continuously: States Rights.

As long as the federal govt keeps its intrusive hands out of the states, we as Americans are free to move where we wish to.

have a problem with abortion laws or union laws in the state you live in? Just move.

High taxes imposed by your state? just move.

This freedom goes away if, say the federal govt takes in the taxes, decides all abortion or unions laws. Means you cannot escape at all.

I am a firm believer that the South had it correct when they fought for not imposing the federal govt onto the States.

States need to be free to exercise what they wish.

if they wish to build a welfare state, let ‘em. The loafers will flodd there to get the goodies and the productive class will leave for better places.

Those states that choose socialism need to be free to decide this, but NOT to be bailed out by the rest of us.

18 months and I am out of this state. Born and raised in Chicago. Just can’t take these property taxes any longer.
