It’s young men and teenage boys who do nearly all the shooting and dying on the streets of Boston.
But more and more it’s young women and teenage girls who hold, hide and even buy the guns that enable such killing. Often they do it out of fear: of an abusive boyfriend, of a pimp who puts them on the street. Or they do it out of desperation: A drug dealer gives them more drugs, or money, for the guns.
That was the sobering message of yesterday’s packed Grove Hall meeting of LIPSTICK, or Ladies Involved in Putting a Stop to Inner-City Killing. It’s a grass-roots group hoping to educate girls and women who may not even consider that the gun they’re hiding has killed, perhaps many times over

Does not fit the whole machismo street culture of these gang-bangers to ask their squeeze to obtain a gun for them.
These women are the ones spreading there legs and breeding this street trash. It is harsh to say but until the ‘urban’ culture starts embracing responsibility the cycle will continue.

Those of us living in New England have had to put up with her prattling twaddle for years.
Articles like this are, at best, well-meaning but muddle-headed nonsense. If young women stop enabling out of control young men, crime will stop? Please.

In past "raids" of FFL holders' businesses, BATF has gone fishing in the 4473 forms for the names of known female associates of local male felons. Found some, too - and then pulled the women in, threatened them with prosecution and coerced them to testify against the gun dealer, with regard to the straw purchases. So overall, this stuff does occur.
Also, in a specific example from a few years ago, there was a shooting incident where police officers pursued a 'hood rat into his girlfriend's apartment. Once there, he retrieved an SKS rifle that he had hidden there and shot at the cops. Might've killed one or two, I can't remember all the details. There was talk of charging the girlfriend for her role in the incident, but I don't know if that occurred.
It doesn't matter if you don't buy it, it's still going to happen. There are only two main sources for guns for felons: stolen guns, and guns bought through "straw purchases", mostly by women. Being caught with a stolen gun carries more jail time, so the preference is to have your woman buy it.
A felon being caught with any gun carries jail time, so there's an incentive to have the woman carry it in her purse.
If young, inner city women stopped sleeping with thugs, and only had sex with men who had legitimate jobs, there would be a sharp reduction in crime. Thugs are "sexy", while men with low-level jobs are "losers" who are "acting white", so young men who want to get laid will become thugs.
They’ll only be the (long term) key if rendered sterile. Harsh, but sadly true.
What these women learn from it all is “don’t date a thug who is stoooopid enough to get his guns from a dealer and fill out 4473’s”.
So the women are beaten by men. The men then give guns to those same women. The women don’t use those guns to stop their beatings? The sisters need to bust a few caps.
Yes, that *should* be the lesson learned from this - but post #12 sums up neatly why that is not the case. These young women are as stupid as the thugs they “date”, perhaps more so.

I believe that gangs are getting women to do straw man gun purchases, but not sure how many. The reason is that most gangs use minor males for shootings as the law is less harsh on them. Most of the trafficked women in the prostitution trade are pretty young, and one can't legally purchase a handgun until one is 21 years old.
Assuming that the article is correct and that a few of the gangs look to their older “HO’s” to illegally do straw man handgun purchases. “... One Ohio college student bought 25 guns — mostly 9 mm pistols — in two trips to a gun shop. Her apparent motive was just attention from the man who wanted them. But she was later arrested, lost her scholarship and spent two years in jail...”
In this case they really should have thrown the book at this woman. If she was a college student, she should have been smart enought to know better and two years sounds like far too little time.
So she gets an ID that shows her to be 21, buys some guns, and then ditches the ID.
