It works this way: On a given Sunday, participants attend Mass en masse at a church theyve picked in an online vote and promoted through Facebook and Twitter. Visitors experience the architecture, heritage and spirit of the aging houses of worship and the churches once again see the numbers they were built for, along with a helpful bump in donations when the collection baskets are passed. Not church growth per se, only the "we'll go if we make it an event" brief appearance of growth. Only one church gets a boost, and only for one Sunday.

I think that is wonderful. They might turn a few stragglers that came along for the “event” into regular attenders. The financial boost, although temporary, I’m sure is welcome in these churches. We have a church in Kansas City that did a major turn around with a wonderful, dear old priest. People drive from all over the KC area to attend Our Lady of Good Counsel. It’s packed with homeschool families on a regular basis. Beautiful old church in a run down neighborhood. Who knows what might come of this? I love it! Would be nice to see it spread to other cities.
