The Sunday Morning Bray, by Bray!
In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. 2 Chronicles 15:5
The Central Planners of Portland always seem to think they know more than anyone else and that goes double for anything having to do with transportation. Here in Tigard Oregon they have decided the way to solve 21st century transportation issues are with 19th century trains. Hopefully nobody tells them about High Speed Stagecoach or we are going to have dirt roads full of manure. These planners ignore all the obvious negatives with trains and tracks to simply push their preconceived beliefs which rarely prove accurate. They completely ignore the obvious and pursue their chicken little flavor of the day.
Electric trains have been the favorite of liberals due to the two bigger myths developed over the past twenty years. The Three Pillars of Propaganda (academia, media and the DNC) invented two major beliefs to promote trains and windmills, the first was the Peak Oil theory, and then the Global Warming fraud invented by that scientific guru Algore. Peak oil stated that we had found most of the oil in the world and would be exhausted somewhere around the year 2020. These agenda driven scientists could not have been any more wrong if they had tried which they did. Unlike the Statists world which is static, the capitalist world is always looking to solve issues efficiently through exploration and innovation like fracking and are now producing more oil than they ever have and expanding the reserves beyond anything the educated idjits ever dreamed.
The electric train requires gasoline costs to be in excess of $12 per gallon like they have in Europe and other state run countries. Even with our gummit doing everything within their power to keep gas artificially high, they cannot stop the development occurring on private ground outside their control. If they were to be neutral rather than actively trying to stop oil production we would be realistically looking at gas prices in the buck fifty range which completely destroys any argument to want to ride trains to your destination. Low cost gas would force these train buffs into accepting the car as a valid form of people moving.
To convince someone to take a terribly slow train like people did in the late 1800s when it was cutting edge technology, you need to make the cost savings exceed the time lost riding snail rails. The central planners have to make the economic argument which doesnt exist saying you can save $20 per trip or two hours of lost time for those who are targeted to ride. Everyone who makes more than $10 per hour will continue to drive their cars and absorb that additional cost. The problem for the train advocates is there are no economic arguments to ride that ancient technology so they have to use feel good emotional arguments to make people think they are saving the earth somehow by riding an outdated train while surfing the net on their phones. At least the central planners know to put Wifi on their horseless carriages.
The emotional argument the central planners have exploited is the Global Warming hoax since Peak Oil has been proven a farce. Once again political driven science has distorted a theory into a fact and convinced enough people there actually is something called man made climate change. Liberals are required to believe this unproven theory unflinchingly without any real questioning mindset you would normally expect in science. These temperature deniers will not dare to question anything that does not fit into their preconceived beliefs such as evolution or Global Warming. As long as the High Priests of science such as Al Gore declare a theory fact, it is good enough for the liberal masses. The climate has been changing since the sun has been in the sky as has been seen throughout the ages and temps are now going down forcing the deniers to declare Global Warming into Climate Change. For all those hoax deniers, the climate always changes and always will.
Marxists need these emotion driven fads to spend money on boondoggles like trains since the economics of transportation do not work. Nobody is going to consider using a train as serious transportation due to it being a linear form of transport. It goes from one place to another without the flexibility needed to vary its route. If your home and job happen to be along the rails and you have the additional time required to ride then it could work, however that is only a handful of people and those will likely move away from the noise and vibration of a train in short order and graduate into their car. It is completely impractical for running errands or shopping as once again it goes nowhere and nobody is going to bring armloads of groceries on a train to then hike a mile once the train drops you at the station, let alone if you have children.
The real reason they want a massive boondoggle like the train infrastructure is to launder some tax dollars for their corporate friends and paybacks to the unions. They will use these excuses to convince their political allies in the unions who will be bribed with a few years of shovel leaning, but the real winners are the train building corporations who get massive contracts with generous profits guaranteed. These are simply giant works projects from the 30s to make sure their campaigns are contributed by the various beneficiaries of the political bosses. This scratchy scratchy system leaves the people with an inferior transportation network with more congestion thanks to not maintaining or expanding the roads necessary to provide enough lanes to efficiently move traffic. Perhaps after they build enough trains to keep the central planners happy they can look into High Capacity Stage Coach and complete their grand design. Better not give them any ideas or Metro will build another floor full of $150K planners to begin their action plans.
Pray America is Waking

Good Morning, Blessed Sunday, Happy Ground Hog’s Day and Super Bowl Sunday!
I am going to TIVO FNS and leave it at that!
Good Morning Dear Lady.
Go Seahawks! It’s Bronco breaking time!
That's why it works in Japan--when you have three times the population of California packed into less land mass than that state--the population density makes such trains viable. That's why between Tokyo and Osaka, the fastest Nozomi Shinkansen trains (it takes about 2.5 hours two travel between the two cities) have around 40 trains per day per direction. Unfortunately, outside of the Northeast Corridor between Washington, DC and Boston, there are very few places where high-speed rail is financially viable in the USA.
Uhm here Larri.
Excellent essay, bray!
That's a huge part of it. Another part is they hate the personal freedom automobiles bring to individual lives.
"Public transportation" keeps people bottled up in urban warrens around transportation nodes. That makes it easier to watch, control, and exploit them as well as "plan" the society the elites want. Just look at China. It also allows the elites to have huge playgrounds in the pristine hinterlands, unspoiled by lumpen proletariat and assorted gun-totting flag wavers and Bible thumpers who somehow imagine their personal freedoms and liberties are more "important" than exquisitely planned "social progress".
Massive "public transportation" is the perfect scheme for machine politicians, Liberals, academics, unions, and control freaks (but, I repeat myself). Best of all, they get the kulaks and bourgeoisie to pay for it!
Curious lineup today. I guess all the news staff for every network is somehow in NY/NJ this morning and are phoning in their Sunday shows.
I will have to watch Tim Scott’s trial by MTP, and also see what Bobby Jindal has to say.
Thanks for thread A.B. Happy Groundhog day
I think it’s due to the Superbowl. They know peoples’ television minds are elsewhere... Not politics.
Or maybe it’s groundhog day. I heard if Fat Candy’s shadow is bigger than a groundhog’s, we’ll have six more weeks of Obama media adulation!
Which is exactly why it doesn’t work here. Even in the NE corridor there are too many variables to do that does not fit a train. The car is a far more efficient means of transportation to make it feasible to ride trains.
Stepinawfulpis just asked Paul Ryan: “If Obama is violating the Constitution, why don’t you impeach him?”
Ryan didn’t directly respond.
Ryan, we don’t trust the president to enforce the law.
Ryan says they want border security first...no amnesty.
And if she doesn’t see her shadow we just get 6 weeks of Marxist drivel.
Plus people living in this NE corridor die regularly being hit by these trains.
The track beds have been in place since trains were invented, and they are not safe for high-speed trains.
Stepinawfulpis cross examining Ryan on remarks about and from the Pope regarding capitalism.
He just asked Ryan if he thought the Pope would endorse his budget. (what an idiot)
Ryan laughed and said: “Of course not, the Pope doesn’t endorse budgets.”
They want to build it here at over $10 million per mile. It is absurd and we have around a dozen people who have basically stopped it. We are having a vote in March that will effectively kill it.
People used to travel a lot by train. Think WWII, for example. However, they stopped using the train. It was a choice consumers made.
Why does the government think that just because they spend taxpayers’ valuable money on new trains that people will suddenly flock to them?
Some see a devious plot, but I don’t. I see stupidity and a childlike desire to really wish something would be true because they like it. Facts mean little. Wasting hard-earned money is easy when you’re immature and stupid.
Good Seahawks Sunday morning, AB and all.
“Go Seahawks! Its Bronco breaking time!”
Amen!!! Can’t wait for the the game. Hope my guys do really well!
I respect Manning, he’s a great QB, but I’m getting a little tired of much of the press - - a lot of all Manning and the Broncos will win because of him. That said, I’ve been reading sites all week that I rarely, if ever, go on: Fox Sports, ESPN, Bleacher Report, NFL on-line, etc. and there have been some good articles about the Hawks. I hope our offensive line gets its act together and protects Wilson and that #3 (the jersey I’ll be wearing later today) has a good day and that the Legion of Boom shuts down Manning.
Looks like FNC is siding with Denver this a.m. - - Elway and Peyton’s dad, Archie. They couldn’t find anyone from the Seahawks org or that was a Seahawks supporter to show up???
If half as many people, were half as enthusiastic about their own self-interest via politics, as they are about football...we would never have gotten into this gawdawful quagmire.
My prediction for the game? The team with the most points in the end will win. Sorry SC, but being from Tennessee I’ll be pulling for the horse team.
A political activist posing as a journalist speaks to like minded democrat political hacks at White House about how to spin the news in their favor. Note the picture in background of democrat contemplating breaking his marriage vows (again) and doing Marilyn Monroe.
When I lived in Jamaica decades ago, there were two labor unions that lined up with the two political parties. Faction fighting reminded me way back then of the intensity that Americans had for choosing teams/leagues in baseball - back then baseball was the national sport where everyone had a favorite.
I felt very smug that we Americans used our loyalty for a sport rather than civic disrest.
I don’t know what’s going on in Jamaica these days, but our political parties have turned into the seriously opposing divisions that Jamaicans knew back then. It is so unhealthy. After an election there, the construction workers, for example, and the people in ‘government’ housing, expected the working men and the householders to be removed instantly in favor of the new party members. I mean protests at the building sites the day after the results were in!
None are giving Obama accolades for his grand SOTU. Most thought it pretty lame. Donna Brasil blames the Republicans for stopping anything Obama wants to do. Navarro (?) says it was mostly lame duck.
Good prediction, animal. That’s ok, pull for the Broncs, but I think (hope)the Seahawks will pull out a win at the end.
A rock radio station in Seattle has been doing parodies to various songs and put 4 up on their site on Friday for download or just for listening.
I think my favorite is Denver Broncos (medley is Desperado - - one of my all time favorite songs):
You can also hear:
Take Matt Schaub and Shove Him
Luck Be A Loser
Hawk and Roll
On MTP the prez mouthpiece, what’s his name, says the Won will not play politics with the keystone pipeline after his state dept. gave the go ahead but will consult the epa. Nope, no politics!!!! LOL on that one.
Alabama fans will never root for a Manning (Tennessee and Ole Miss?) Never!!!
Roll Tide/War Eagle Uber Alles!!!
OMG, Christy, Christy, Christy. Gregory is having an orgasm right on the set. He really thinks they got him now. Maybe they do. Not many of us give a darn, right?
Steffie knows an impeachment charge would go nowhere in Reid’s Senate. IIRC, impeachment requires 67 votes. It wouldn’t even get 100% of the Republicans in the Senate.
I have posted many times recently that, if The One ever gets impeached, it will be led by Democrats, not Republicans.
Bama fans will never root for the War Eagles and vice versa. Now that is a rivalry worth watching. Throw the records out. It’s Alabama vs Auburn. Doesn’t get much better. You have a point though. Not nary a fan in Alabama will be pulling for Denver.
Maybe what we are witnessing with Christie is what early American novelists would write about: what happens after someone makes a deal with the devil -—

Ryan and Cantor are pushing amnesty along with the Zuckerberg commercials that are now running.
Well sports is a subterfuge. America was founded on a revolution against tyranny, and now we have major corruption in the face of widespread apathy and class warfare (another ruse).
If we don't get some reactionary citizen pushback soon, we will be seeing some serious "civic disrest" or outright civil war.
“Ryan and Cantor are pushing amnesty”
A sure fire way to become a permanent minority.
You saying Bobby was a packer?
I am a bit conflicted and confused.
This week, I have seen threads on FR that for 2016, where Romney is the frontrunner, Huckabee is the frontrunner, Palin is the frontrunner.
It is already a loooooooooooong presidential cycle for 2016. How soon before we start seeing the hourly polls like we did in 2012?
“How soon before we start seeing the hourly polls like we did in 2012?”
Ten minutes after the end of the Super Bowl.
I absolutely believe Stephanopolous and cohorts talked about this on the phone many times. They knew that Clinton’s popularity numbers went UP during impeachment, and the media was able to spin it as all about sex and those greedy, puritanical Republicans wanting to just “get” Bill Clinton because they’re partisan bastards and hypocrite fundamentalists.
So they “hope” the Republicans take the bait, imagining how they could spin it as racist, too.
I’m sure they chuckle and high-five whenever they get together about Georgie’s birth control question to Mitt Romney and fervently hope they can start something again.
NEVER answer a Stephanopolous question without first thinking about just what he’s up to and what conversations he’s had with his friends.
Frankly, if I was a conservative Republican I would NEVER go on ABCCBSNBC, but that’s just me. Some think there is no such thing as bad publicity, but I wonder about that. Someone needs to starve the snake.
TW Roundtable on Marijuan — Colorado, etc.
Female: We need regulation, regulations, more regulations!
Doctor: Was against, but has 2 teen sons, and doesn’t think it is that bad any more.
Another expert: Downtown Denver now smells differently than it did pre-law. Now, it smells like Boulder.
Steffie: Wish we had more time on the topic.
Ryan is lyin'. I haven't watched the interview yet, but previously he said that the Gang of 8 bill isn't an amnesty. An out and out lie. Any legislation that allows the lawbreakers to stay and work here is amnesty--citizenship is just the cherry on top.
The border security first is also a scam. Ryan wants to issue "probationary" legalization to the 12 to 20 million lawbreakers. This essentially stops all enforcement and deportations except for some egregious criminal aliens. Those receiving "probationary" status would be allowed to work, get SSN's, etc. This is the equivalent of the Z visa proposed in the McCain-Kennedy 2007 amnesty bill, which McCain said, like Ryan, that it was not an amnesty because the lawbreakers would have to pay a fine, learn English, and get to the back of the line.
Cantor is getting ready to propose the GOP version of the Dream Act.
