Obamacare won't cover the cancer specialist treating ailing Sen. Tom Coburn, forcing the Oklahoma Republican to pay out of pocket to continue receiving care from his oncologist, Politico reported Tuesday.
"Im doing well from a health standpoint, got great docs," Coburn told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Tuesday.
"Fortunately, even though my new coverage wont cover my specialist, Im going to have great care, and I have a great prognosis."
While he is being treated for a recurrence of prostate cancer, Coburn's coverage under his Obamacare insurance plan has been reduced, Politico reported, and he lost coverage for the oncologist who'd been treating him.
Coburn's office told Politico that the lawmaker, who is an obstetrician, will pay out of his own pocket to continue seeing the specialist, however.
"We hope the White House will work with us to make sure Americans who cant afford to pay out of pocket dont lose access to life-saving care," spokesman John Hart told Politico.

Nanny State PING!
Welcome to the Obamanation.
A Liberals’ ‘natural selection’ process.
Are our representatives in Washington really that dumb?
I hope for the best for Coburn’s health, but it’s very disappointing that even when something like this happens, his greatest concern is defending Obama. He’s so deep in Obama’s pocket, he couldn’t even imagine what it looks like outside. He may have a better disposition than Harry Reid, but at this point there isn’t much practical difference between his political outlook and Harry Reid’s.
I thought Congress was exempt from Obamacare?
He’s my age, which in almost all cases means the person is on Medicare.
I don’t understand his situation as described.
Congress is not exempt from Obamacare (other than I think Harry Reid pulled some last-minute shenanigan off the boilerplate to exempt his staff).
They and their staffs are however getting big additional premium subsidies that are not available to the rest of us.
You also have to be on social security. He’s still working.
Wasn’t he the one who said Pelosi is a nice person?
I have zero sympathy for career politicians. When they had the majority they could have passed rule changes that would have kept them I power forever. Instead, they played with their “good friends across the aisle” and now the democrats will have power forever.
Not true. You can be on Medicare and not receiving SocSec.
It’s starts the month you turn 65 yrs old.
Tom Coburn is one of conservatism's most valuable assets, one of the most honest of senators, and it's horrible to think the U.S. will have to go on without his reasonable and intelligent contributions. His book Breach of Trust, although written years ago essentially about the failure of the Republican's "Contract with America" under Speaker Gingrich, is still worth a read about how things work in the pork barrel Senate. May God restore his health. He deserves a medal instead of this drain on his finances after so many years of trying to bring fiscal and policy sanity to Washington.
