Reince's Solutions Miss Mark (GOPe taken down to size)
American Thinker ^ | 1-25-13 | C. Edmund Wright

In typical establishment fashion, Reince Priebus and the wizards at the RNC have looked at the last presidential nomination cycle and learned the wrong lessons. They have concluded that not allowing Mitt Romney a smooth coronation was the problem, and they are out to make sure their anointed one never has to face that again. As such, the prescriptions for change recently announced by Priebus will only make things worse. This is what happens when a national party is isolated from -- and igorant of -- its nation.

Yes, the debates did become a series of shameless food fights as the process unfolded -- and something should be done about that. But what exactly? One might think that the establishment consultants would look in the mirror and figure out that it was they, and their candidates, who made it so. As long as the debates were focused on the problems of Obama and liberal judges, liberals in Congress, liberal academics, liberal unions, and liberals in the media, the debates were awesome. We needed more of those debates. Of course, only Herman Cain, and at two different times Newt Gingrich, had this figured out.

Reince Preibus is little better than Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

I was wondering when this subject would appear here, Dems been on it for a while.

I recall that it was Steele (RNC) who said he worked to extend the GOP primary to make it harder for one to win in a few months.

The result was a long primary with lots of debates and a ton of candidates (in the beginning) when Obama had no such problem.

One low was when they all said they would turn down $10 min spending cuts if it included $1 in tax increases, which was a clear yes-no got-ya trap.

So now the RNC is moving in the other direction, get it over quick.

This time there is no obvious shoe in. Some thought it was Christie.

The RNC was so mad at Newt making Mitt look bad, that they want to make sure no one gets to upstage their little Jebbie or the big fatty in 16.

Of course when you have liberal moderators running the debates and asking the questions then being able to bring up liberal failings in a debate will not be tolerated.

Which is why I address that issue in the piece, yes.

And did so in June 2011 also.

The Baine Capital stuff.

Hopefully there will be some good GOP candidates this time for 2016, they couldn't get much worse than that pack of losers in 2012(2011).

It was like the Island of Misfit toys.

I believe the first step is to have legitimate moderators who's only agenda is to provide a forum for the candidates to promote their positions and candidacy. I understand that it is necessary to test their ability to respond to difficult questions and difficult situations which they will surely face in the general election.

I think the large number of debates encourages the candidates to attack each other (and thus provide ammunition to the rats). A limited schedule of debates is all that is necessary to introduce the candidates and then have them do their campaigning on the road. It is more expensive, but that will also help to weed out some of the marginal characters that really don't have a following and are just there on an ego trip.

Dispense with the entertainment TV, survivor, bloopers, trick questions mentality. If we must, have someone tell jokes at several scheduled breaks in the debates.

At the beginning of the debates have the moderator put the audience in the correct frame of mind by explaining the seriousness of selecting the best candidate to lead the most powerful nation on earth out of the morass that choosing the most unqualified candidate has gotten us into.

Reince Priebus should be ashamed
of himself as Chair of the RNC.

Has anyone seen the very poor showing of
Boehner on the Jay Leno show.

The GOPe needs to reflect themselves in a mirror
and realize that they appear to be drunken fools.

One quick rule we can all agree upon: Never allow Candy Crowley “moderate” a debate again. She cheated to help Obastard, then admitted it an hour later. When you watch a tape of that, you can see Obastard sitting there with a big s***-eating grin because he knew in advance she was going to lie about what he said about Benghazi.

That was no accident, she and Obastard had planned it.

Easy to blame it on him and the Country Club Republicans. However, the real reason is that conservatives could not agree on any one of the people running.

Nice article and you are entirely correct.

If you noticed some of the comments many folks are talking about defeating Bohner & McConnell even if they survive the primaries; I'm w/ them!

Concerning the '12 primary; everyone was desperate for the not-Romney candidate, but each alternative in turn displayed serious, fatal flaws.

I don't blame the GOPe for the debacle of '12 so much as the Tea Party not being mature enough, at that point, to field a serious candidate. I think '16 will be different.

Very nice piece. It addresses perception. :)

I really appreciate your take on the perception that comes out of those early caucuses (full of single issue mish mash) and followed by that early NH outcome. Such a good point.

The RNC are all doing their best to rerout the TP train, to whistle stops only.

Thx. Rita.

Those that lived through Ronaldo Magnus understand that the rnc and their progressive demons have ALWAYS been wrong and remain wrong. Reagan drug them kicking and screaming into Conservatism and they have worked to reverse his gains since they ordained Bush I.
