A Racist Turn in India JAN. 24, 2014

African students demonstrated against discrimination at a protest in New Delhi last June. Deepak Malik/Demotix via Corbis Contributing Op-Ed Writer By NILANJANA S. ROY

NEW DELHI — The Africans — Nigerians, Ghanaians, Ugandans — began leaving my neighborhood in New Delhi around December. Each week, more and more families exited. Some went to parts of Delhi considered more accepting of Africans; others to areas where the residents were thought to be less interfering in general. I have heard that some of the Ghanaian families had gone back to Africa, but I don’t know that for sure.

For years, they had been a part of the swirl of cultures, languages and races that makes up this part of the capital. The Nigerian women in their bright dresses out for evening strolls and the Cameroonian family with the curious-eyed baby at the ice-cream van had made a life for themselves alongside the Afghans, Tamils and Iranians.

Wow. The NYT is discovering that Americans are not racist but the ones to whom the Magic Negro bows to. Wow. What a surprize. Duhh.

I go through life ... I don't expect everyone to like me.

If I really, really wanted everyone to like me, I guess I'd have to live on a continent in which everyone pretty much looked and acted like me. But, if I wanted to go out into the world and live in places where people were not just like me ... I guess I'd have to accept the fact that not everyone will like me.

Race card: I am so done with it.

You’d also see the ubiquitous Indian in every part of the planet and Idi Amin did teach us about racism when he expelled Indians from Uganda and the Indians with their British passports flocked to England rather than go back to their native India.

In England, you see, they let them ride inside the train.

The NYT speaks in code: I only skimmed the piece, so please correct me if I am wrong, but, does the article address whether these African emigres are Muslim or Christian?

Either way, the religious element may well play a part, and should be honestly portrayed in any piece of this nature.

Is the knock-out game racist?

Oh well, clearly India is in dire need of emergency “immigration reform” and a path to citizenship for these foreigners. Perhaps John Boehner, Lindsey Graham and Eric Cantor can make an overseas trip to India to help them develop a “framework” for such reform.

And the BJP government kicked out one German lady I know who had been there for years, along with other Europeans, for simply being non-Indian, and I didn’t see the NYT write an article about it. It must not have been news fit to print.
