Pensioners with cancer are being written off as too old to treat, campaigners said yesterday.

They cited figures showing survival rates for British patients aged 75 and over are among the worst in Europe.

Young lung cancer sufferers are only 10 per cent more likely to die within five years than their continental counterparts.

But pensioners with the disease have 44 per cent less chance of survival.

The figure for stomach cancer – at 45 per cent – is even worse.

They’re OK with it as long as they don’t think the victim is ‘suffering’ and has access to unlimited morphine apparently.

I’m still trying to figure out how they decided that a system that can deny you lifesaving treatments won’t turn around and deny you morphine as well. Just because right now it’s ‘cheaper’ to dope them up till they die than it is to give them chemo. Won’t be long before a panel decides that the ‘unlimited’ morphine is too expensive too. And they start to ration that as well.

Too old to be given cancer treatment: NHS is 'writing off' patients who are over 75...not just the NHS - at 75 I started with a new urologist last year after my previous doc of twenty years retired - he told me during our first meeting that my PSA was good, but even if it went bad by this time and confirmed cancer, anything he could do for me would probably make me sicker than the cancer - sure made me feel better.....
