Re the SS, I think it depends on their age. They can’t be very old if they have teenage daughters. At the most 40 I would guess

I think there is something factually wrong in the story.

The parents would have to be 65 to qualify for Medicare, which is what the article says they are on. It is likely that they are on Medicaid instead, which is a completely different program. If so, I don’t understand why the disabled teenage twins aren’t also on Medicaid.

Social Security is for those 62 and over. SSI is for any age if the applicant has paid enough into the SS system and becomes disabled. The story says the parents are receiving SSI, which would indicate they are not yet old enough to draw Social Security.

The facts as presented in the story just don’t add up.
