Groggy America just won't wake up. A big part of this because at any one moment, while we may focus on one tax or another or one fee or another, we lose sight of the big picture. If added up, all the local/state/federal taxes, all the local/state/federal fees, overt and hidden, personal and business, double and even triple taxation, penalties that are labeled taxes, taxes labeled penalties, and on and on... the marginal tax rate is confiscatory. Not as bad perhaps (yet), but close to the confiscatory "taxes" of Roman slaves.

Personally, my taxes combined equal half of my income.

The increasingly small fraction that goes to defense and those who truly are unable to take care of themselves is money well spent.

Other than that, I have access to roads and am allowed to take an exemption on my mortgage. Big deal.

Its the biggest racket in the history of mankind.
