If we would just listen to You! If we would just do what You tell us to do, we could have the peace You want us to have. But so often, we allow fear, doubt, and all manner of anxious thoughts to encompass our minds. And we lose our peace.
Father, we know that peace is very important to You, and so it should be important to us as well. Our Savior died to give us peace---not the worlds peace, but the peace that passes all understanding that we have in and through Christ Jesus. Help us to seek that precious gift of peace at all times, Precious Lord.
May our troops seek Your peace too as they search for You in the midst of chaos and strife. Help them to be able to find You in the Word and in the Still, Small Voice that speaks to them. Holy God, we hunger and thirst for the peace that only You can bring.
We thank You for the life of Martin Luther King and all those who have sought to keep America a land of freedom and opportunity for all races.
Be with our Olympic athletes, Lord, as they prepare for their competitions. Guard their lives, and help them to represent this nation well.
We pray for strength for Pastor Saeed Abedini and Kenneth Bae, and all those in the persecuted church. Help them to feel the prayers of Believers upholding them.
Gracious Lord, we exalt Your Holy and Awesome Name and we thank You for being the eternal God of the Universe. Thank You that we find shelter in Your everlasting arms. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Please join us in prayer.
Please join us in prayer.
Amen.
Joining in prayer for our Heroes and Nation.
Blessings, etabeta
Read: Mark 10:35-45
Some people feel like a small pebble lost in the immensity of a canyon. But no matter how insignificant we judge ourselves to be, we can be greatly used by God.
In a sermon early in 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. quoted Jesus words from Mark 10 about servanthood. Then he said, Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You dont have to have a college degree to serve. You dont have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You dont have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. . . . You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.
When Jesus disciples quarreled about who would get the places of honor in heaven, He told them: Whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many (Mark 10:43-45).
I wonder about us. Is that our understanding of greatness? Are we gladly serving, doing tasks that may be unnoticed? Is the purpose of our serving to please our Lord rather than to gain applause? If we are willing to be a servant, our lives will point to the One who is truly great.
