A senior administration official tells POLITICO that President Barack Obama on Friday will announce the end of the National Security Agencys telephone metadata program as it currently exists.
The official said Obama will order a transition that will end the Section 215 telephone metadata program as it currently exists, and move to a program that preserves the needed capabilities without the government holding this data.

Somehow a post-it note with five names on it for the NSA to avoid isn’t quite what the public expects for “Obama to halt part of NSA phone program”.
Just saw a snippet of his announcement from yesterday. He doesn’t even seem to be pretending to be serious about his position anymore.
