Guess What Group is Getting Food Stamps at an Alarming Rate
Heritage ^ | January 16, 2014

Food stamp rolls have been growing rapidly. But what many may not realize is that participation among able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) has been skyrocketing compared to the total number of participants. That’s just one reason Congress should reform the food stamp program in the farm bill now under consideration. In just four years, the number of able-bodied adults without dependents (ABAWDs) on the food stamp rolls skyrocketed by over 2 million. While overall food stamp use grew by 53 percent between Fiscal Year 2007 and Fiscal Year 2010 (from about 26 million to nearly 40 million), it more than doubled among able-bodied adults without dependents during this time–from 1.7 million to 3.9 million–an increase of roughly 127 percent. Food stamp spending today is roughly $80 billion, double what it was in Fiscal Year 2008.

They are using the wrong acronym.

Instead of ABAWD, it should be PWPTVO (People Who Promise To Vote Obama)

We lowered the import tariffs and offshored all the jobs.

If government policy takes away the jobs, then government should feed them.

It’s more important to our government and the free traders to keep the Chinese employed than to keep our own people employed.

Exactly. We taxed domestic producers and lowered the import tariffs on foreign producers. Effectively a subsidy to foreign producers. And we got more imports, more offshoring, and less domestic production as a result.

We now pay for the cheap imports first when we buy them, and again when we pay our taxes to support the 100 million Americans on food stamps, and the able bodied people on medicaid, and unemployment, and etc.

That's exactly the opposite of what our founding fathers did.

I could if I weren't forced at gunpoint to share what I worked for with them.

It’s not the Food Stamp Program that’s the problem. It’s the Obozo Policies that created the problem. People have no jobs................

Exactly what is a food stamp roll? Can you make a sandwich with it? Can you toast it & put butter on it? Is it a certain amount of coins inserted into a cylindrical tube? Can’t anyone spell anymore?

Food stamps are just welfare. It is money taken from someone to buy votes for Democrat politicians.

Government isn’t feeding them. Taxpayers are feeding them. Many eat so much better than the taxpayers I know. It is not fair or just. You make it sound like there is not a job to be had in all of the USA.

Food stamp spending today is roughly $80 billion, double what it was in Fiscal Year 2008.

Does that total include the massive big gov administration costs and state costs and contributions? Typically the fed requires states to provide matching funds, doubling the total taxpayer cost, and does not include gov employee/retiree costs which are very substantial.

There was a story about single hipsters getting food stamps so they continue their lifestyle and not have to actually grow up.

Oh there are jobs to be had, and each one draws thousands of applicants.

Shadowstats.com shows unemployment at 23% and growing.
