Colorado airport installs 'amnesty' boxes for pot users

Pot-smoking travelers at one Colorado airport who need to ditch their stash before boarding can deposit their marijuana in an "amnesty box."

The boxes began cropping up at Colorado Springs Airport on Wednesday to give passengers unaware it is illegal to carry pot on a plane the opportunity to dump their weed, The Gazette newspaper reported.

While Colorado legalized recreational marijuana use on Jan. 1, major airports in the state have banned it on their facilities to comply with federal agencies, which still consider it illegal.

Greg Phillips, aviation director of the Eagle County Airport near Vail, said the facility is considering amnesty boxes. A signage plan is also in the works.

For now, anyone caught with cannabis will be asked to remove it from the property or hand it over to officials.

“What we don’t want is them throwing it in the trash can,” Phillips said. “Then you have other people digging through the garbage.”

Ohhh yeah.

Another little bennie for our overworked public servants.

I mean, someone has to empty the boxes a couple of times a day, right?

And nobody wants to see TSA agents digging through the trash. Put it in a box where they can divvy it up properly at break time.

Whatever doper came up with this idea is a sheer genius. Free weed for life. Just set up some waste bins at the airport, and everyone will want to contribute. How many airports can they run this scam at in the “Get High” state?

Can anyone set up an amnesty box? I’ll set up ones for pot, guns and knives. Someone else can handle prohibited shampoo bottles.

America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within. - Joseph Stalin

So, you go to Colorado and smoke pot. How long does it take to leave your system? What happens when you get back home and have to take a random drug test at work?

A shoe waiting to drop on the legal dope front is the UN treaties the US has signed banning cultivation, sale, and possession of cannabis.

There are international laws, too.

Either nobody has thought of this, or they think there is a way around it, or they WANT the bluehats to come in.

It does make one wonder about who empties the boxes. The story seemed to be silent on that.

I am going to open up a restaurant at the airport there, and here's why:

Typical stoner sez to hisself "Self, I can't spark up a dooby at the airport. Sooo, I'm gonna burn one now and then head to the airport to visit my folks."

Stoner Steve gets to the airport, THEN the munchies kick in.

$20 pizza slices - I'm gonna be rich.

Did ya know the people who do the drug testing are not randomly tested?

Did ya know people who hold real power and authority over people like judges, cops, Congress, POTUS, the Senate, and public school teachers are not randomly drug tested?

I doubt if people will fly there just to smoke. It's not like the stuff is not available anywhere else.

Ooh...fake amnesty boxes. Don’t think of it as fraud, think of it as a business opportunity.

Believe it or not, they had one of those ‘amnesty’ boxes at the Army induction center in Oakland CA back in the late 60’s. I was living in San Francisco at the time and when I got drafted I had to report there to get sworn in. Hard to believe anybody would show up with dope as they head off to basic, but the damn thing was nearly full.
