“The wolf pack members haven’t the faintest clue that those of us who are conservative Republican Party members are no longer amused at the attacks on us because we don’t pass their litmus tests on every political issue and personage.”

The traditional conservative has put 80% as the threshold for support. Romney couldn’t hit double digits. Most of the GOP leadership is far below it.

Your purity BS falls apart.

Show the math on how one moves right/conservative by electing and supporting people advocating leftist positions like illegal immigration, homosexual special rights, screwing our veterans, global warming, surveillance state tactics and the rest.

No really. Show us the math.

What you have written is a woe is use Sauls’ ‘personalize it’ tactic by labeling us as a wolfpack attacking you.

Your insanity should be attacked by any person that believes in principle. Lastly, why are you so arrogant as to poo poo the words of our founders who specifically told us to keep the enemy and his ideas in their own camp and out of yours (See Alexander Hamilton for details).

Unless the enemy’s camp IS your own.

This website from its very inception was chock full of Republicans. It was predominantly Republican. You only showed up in 2004, so you don’t have any firsthand knowledge of what this site used to be starting in 1997, who populated it, who were the original activists pushing conservative values and how they were actively helping Republican candidates win elections. How many of them are left here now as most Republicans seem to be unwelcome by the latest crop of Freepers. That’s terribly unfortunate and does not bode well for the state of our nation. And it appears to be arbitrary as to which of the few Republicans left here are considered conservative enough, and which aren’t.

Certain “folks” on threads have taken it upon themselves to be the judges of purity. They are both judge and deep in their political souls, would be executioners, just like was done in Nazi Germany or the old Soviet Union. Get rid of those that don’t think exactly like they do. One must be ideologically pure enough. Show your credentials please, and we will make an arbitrary decision and no one will stop us from doing so, so we will arbitrarily try to get rid of those that oppose our own value judgment as to what constitutes conservative enough. I wonder how they would react if one day someone tried to get rid of them on the basis of some new ideology that would take precedent over theirs and they were judged not pure enough. I find them to be scary people.

Longevity mean nothing. You have been here since 98 and are clueless to the mission statement.

Ideas matter. Not the old boy club BS they your slip shows. Thats the GOP. That’s the problem.

I stand with Laz on this - there are but a handful of Republicans that I support and respect. There are NO democrats that I support and respect.

This website from its very inception was chock full of Republicans. It was predominantly Republican.

Once again: READ.

"Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah!"

I do not see the word Republican in the mission statement Jim Robinson wrote all those years ago.

That there were -- and are -- Republicans here is not the point. Conservatives come in any number of flavors, both Republican and unaligned, and even the rare Democrat.

This is not, nor ever has been, a Republican forum. This is, however, at the owners desire and initiation, a CONSERVATIVE website.

I *know* you can grasp this concept. I just *know* it. :)

“Being an independent conservative I am happy to vote for conservatives who run as Republicans, but I won’t vote for anything else.”

Then you will get Hillary. Eight years of her, and we will be a totally socialist, bordering on communist and corrupt country by then. Everything you claim to loathe we will have become. Thanks for nothing.

He might wish to remind the GOPe wing of that. At least I wish he would. His choice.

Did you know I voted for Mitt Romney?

That's right. I sure did.

But I did not hold out any illusion that it would turn the socialism around. Mitt had a record in MA, and a bunch of promises. I don't bank on promises.

I voted for Mitt Romney knowing that I had the choice between Mitt Romney (a poison that would kill) or Barack Obama (a .45 slug to the temple -- and that definitely kills).

I chose Mitt Romney because I felt he would give me a little more time to prepare. For what, I don't know. But I would get a little more time.

Frankly, I don't feel this system will last long enough for any of our discussion to matter.

Still, amuse me: You claimed I was not Conservative. I await your citations from my posting history! This should be fun. :)

“Here’s a hint. She disposes what RINOs like you support. And guess what? Most of her fellows do as well.”

That’s because you are her father and she has been influenced by your opinions, to the negative I might add. Are you saying she won’t vote for a Republican? Mrs. Perlson who can match and surpass you in members of military in her family, believes the military thinks like she does, not how you do. And I suspect Mrs. Perlson has a wider circle of military folks to draw her conclusions from than your daughter’s much smaller circle of military friends.

Ever notice the people who scream loudest about the evils of purity are ALWAYS the people demanding pure RINO voting no matter the cost?

Odd that.

As Ronaldus said, The problem with liberals is that they think they know so many things that just aren’t so.

Mirror. Look in one.

I feel that a desire for purity of ideology is GOOD. I do not understand anyone who would object to that goal!

Obviously, purity is unobtainable. Even Reagan -- my all time favorite Presidents -- had his (very minor) liberal leanings.

My take: When it comes to the desire for an orthodox ideology, never let inability to achieve it stop us from striving for it.

“It gets you WILLINGLY accepting incremental bits of what you don’t want and they add up. It’s how YOUR party went from Ronald Reagan to Mitt Romney.”

And you will get years of just what you seem to want, Democratic rule. In pursuit of trying to decimate the “lesser evil” you will end up with total evil, a totalitarian state. Nice chess move on your part.

You sound like one of those people who will guzzle a glass of 80% 'rat poison (jeb, christie, romney) because, by golly, it's less than 100% rat poison (hitlery).

I would like 100% fresh water (Cruz) or at the very least something with no more poison in it that Rand or Walker.

The days of swallowing whatever toxic, globalist, homo-advocating, gun-grabbing, federal-government-expanding, freedom-curtailing swill of a candidate the rovetards push is over.

Look, I have a hard truth for you.

You are going to get a totally evil totalitarian state no matter who you vote for.

It is apparent at the topmost levels of the GOP-e, that they feel it is wisest to push on us leftist candidates. McCain, for example, was and is HIDEOUSLY left-of-center. Even the Arizona GOP is censuring him.

We will probably be stuck with yet another leftwing Republican, for this is what the GOP-e wants.

Guess what you get when leftwingers are in power? Increasing socialism, and -- with the bug that seems to have infected ALL inside-beltway types, save a handful -- an increasingly-onerous police state.

Yes, we will get it slower with a GOP-e candidate. But get it, we will.

Are you familiar with a tool called the racheting wrench? You turn it, and it clicks the nut tighter, then you turn it the other way, and the rachet clicks so that your next turn will tighten it more.

That is what is going on. We 'rachet' further and further into socialism, communism, and totalitarianism.... and the GOP-e wants to give us candidates that will not LOOSEN the nut, but simply engage the rachet for the next turn.

You claim conservatism, though I have yet to see it. But, based on your claim, doesn't this bother you?

Not even a little?

Bravo MinuteGal. Well said. I hope more like you come forward, put away their fear, and stand up to the wolfpacks that roam with impunity on most of the political threads. The only safe threads nowadays are the gardening thread, Sunken Civ’s archeology threads (which I love), music, movie or history type threads, or humorous ones. Can’t go on the religious threads, as they are like WWIII nowadays. Again, hope to see more people of your stripe speak up and take aim at the thread bullies so they don’t multiply more than they already have.
