A candid picture series exposing the lives of New York City nannies reveals how a deep-rooted racial divide continues to permeate the industry. Photographer Ellen Jacob, 58, told MailOnline that she was inspired to start the project after noticing how it was often 'black women pushing white babies around' on Manhattan's affluent Upper West Side. After spending four years scouring the streets for willing subjects she discovered the majority of caregivers, aged 23 to 60, were immigrants living on the minimum wage with no sick pay, holidays or health benefits.

This can’t be true. Liberals represent the poor, the unpowerful, the oppressed.
It is just like with the Romney’s grandbaby: When you start pointing this sort of thing out, you are the race problem.
In that case, may I suggest that all the black nannies be fired so they won’t complain.
They have jobs, and if they're live-in nannies they have all the upper-class amenities, eat the same meals their employers eat, and sleep in safety far from the underclass neighborhoods.
Me, if I were wealthy enough to afford nannies (rather than just having the wife stay home with the kids, which is what we did), I would NOT be having anybody near my young kids who might secretly have a huge, seething racial chip on her shoulder.
Most of these two-income couples live on a financial precipice. Huge sums of money come in every week, and immediately go out. Often, they’re hard pressed to pay all the bills.
Oh boo hoo. If they don’t want to nanny or push white babies then don’t.
A lot of people in NY have nannies, and believe me those nannies make good money. I would also like to say that if you have a white nanny (and a lot of Irish girls do this work too) a casual observer might not realize the woman is the nanny and not the mom.
I would also like to say that down through history black women have raised a lot of white children, and they’ve done a good job of it.
No, I didn’t read the article, but here is my two cents anyway!
If they choose to be nannies, what’s the big problem? Why make it a racial issue?
What’s next ... the disproportionate number of blacks serving McDonald’s hamburgers to white customers?
If the boss is a lib, they’re giving opportunity to someone of colour.
If the boss is conservative, they’re exploiting blacks.
They all seem like nice ladies and lucky kids.
Any pictures of White men and women working and supporting Black welfare single mothers and their children with their taxes ..... ?
I am reminded of Frank McCourt’s antidote re his mother as a Nanny to Jewish children in New York city, she secretly baptized them to save their souls!
These children are all going to grow up to be NYC Progressives/Liberals. Article should have mentioned that.
So their politicians hide behind slogans like "Liberty and Justice for all" promising EBT cards and free cell phones.
Rich leftists are for amnesty and open borders because their wealthy neighborhood borders are secure. Progressives support bad public schools and then send their kids to private school. Their hypocrisy has no end.
For some reason, probably related to the same root assumptions that say unions and communism are good for people,
leftists tend to believe that no one works out of choice,
but out of necessity,
and that employers, therefore, always exploit workers.
One of the best summer jobs I ever had was subbing for a au-pair who went home to visit for a month. The family I worked for was very well-off, the pay was great, double what I typically made as a baby-sitter.. Our delicious meals were made and cleaned up after by the cook. All I did was play with the kids and take them for a walk once a day, plus a little light housework during nap times (making beds, dusting or vacuuming once in a while, straightening up the toy room). My skin was several shades darker than the children I was caring for, but I never thought about it.
Perhaps I should have felt exploited in some way?
It all comes down to cheap labor. If there were anyone willing to accept the same pay as these so-called “black women” this article would not exist. While “Whitey” works, the black women are there to care for the kids and make a few bucks to survive on.
Georgia’s 5th Dist. Representative to the US Congressman John Lewis. An extra-ordinarily loyal plantation foreman long-serving Atlanta’s yellow-dog Dixiecrats. This faithful warrior on poverty promotes black genocide, supporting all abortion legislation, etc. Totally beholden to Atlanta’s limosine liberals who I know by name, religion and addresses. All teflon coated.
If the author only saw white nannys pushing white babies she would scream racism. I h8 race-mongers.
In a society where there is not intergenerational living, women need help with the child rearing. I think in Africa, the grandma stays home and takes care of the kids, while mom works in the fields or in the marketplace, where it is primarily a woman’s world.
In my old neighborhood, my neighbor was a single mom, a law secretary, and worked long hours. Her nanny was Guatemalan, and she left her country to make money and send it back to her babies. Grandma was the caretaker.
Ideally, it would be a husband in the workplace, mom at home tending the little ones, and a house full of very useful appliances, then a teenager who would sit for the family on weekly date nights.
Although, I never got that chance to weigh these options.
