The FBI is not planning to file criminal charges involving the Internal Revenue Service's extra scrutiny of the Tea Party and other conservative groups, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing law enforcement officials.
The newspaper quoted officials as saying that investigators probing the IRS actions, which unleashed a political furor in Washington, did not uncover the type of political bias or "enemy hunting" that would constitute a criminal violation. The evidence showed a mismanaged agency enforcing rules it did not understand on applications for tax exemptions, the Journal reported.
The case is still under investigation, but criminal charges were unlikely unless unexpected evidence emerged, officials familiar with the probe told the paper.
A Justice Department spokesman declined to comment when queried by Reuters.

Ah, the joys of bureaucracy and rules designed to deny individual responsibility when such anonymity is desired. Given that the culture of the IRS is highly favorable to increased power and implicitly bigger government, who amongst them would desire to ‘squeal’ when one of their own works for that goal?
Anyone else getting the feeling that the IRS bureaucracy is becoming the tail that wags the dog? It is the largest single piece of the non-military government and has just been handed an increase in employment and enforcement authority by the Obamacare act. Since the TEA Party movement is anti big government, increased mandates and Obamacare in general, color me ‘shocked’! /sarc

We will see how innocent this all was in 2017 when an INDEPENDENT COUNCIL is appointed to investigate the irs and the fbi.

All FBI resources have been dedicated to investigating the much more serious allegations of tampering with traffic in New Jersey.

I seem to recall that the Romans dealt with corrupt officials, by cutting off the tip of the nose, placing the perpetrator in a large bag with two wolves, and throwing the whole thing in the water.
