Agreed. If they believed in our rights, there wouldn’t be politically motivated audits going on since the Clinton administration.

Yes, and journalists should have a code of ethics assuring that they will be objective. Oh, that’s right - they do - but being objective is not something that people naturally do - or even are capable of doing.

We should try something different - like passing an amendment phasing out the income tax over a few years, and abolishing the IRS. It has way too much power to be safe - just like the Associated Press.

I would suggest that the resultant economic upturn would be more than sufficient to absorb those unemployed as a result of shutting down the IRS; well, maybe all but the damn lawyers they have on staff.
The data? There is no change to the current requirements for data security. Archive the data, scrub the hardware and low-level format the drives (or simply pull and destroy them, replacements are cheap enough). Sell off the hardware, furniture, and the office buildings. Return that money to the Treasury, to be applied to the accumulated national debt.
