Neighbors of Fort Lee woman who died after GWB closures delayed emergency response speak
Star Ledger ^ | 1/9/14 | Lisa Rose

Neighbors described the 91-year-old Fort Lee woman who lay unconscious as lane closures at the George Washington Bridge delayed first responders from attending to her as a private, as a religious person.

A letter from the borough's EMS coordinator to the mayor said, in at least four instances, that emergency officials were snarled by traffic in responding to calls, including to one on Harvard Place involving an elderly woman who later died.

The letter from EMS coordinator Paul Favia, to Mayor Mark Sokolich, said the call involving the elderly woman, who was in cardiac arrest, came in at 8:43 a.m. on Sept. 9, the first day of the lane closures.

The woman was later pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital. Favia did not attribute her death to traffic, but, he wrote, "I would also like it to be noted that paramedics were delayed due to heavy traffic on Fort Lee Road."

Neighbors identified that woman as Florence Genova, a widow with two children who lived out of state.

What is wrong with Americans these days?

One look at this Chischristie cartoon and one ought to know that this boy ain't all right.

ECU on candidates reveals, or should, one hell of a lot to any one who's ever bought livestock. Look closely at Bill Clinton, at whatsis ... the commie gay guy in the WH ... these people look normal to you?

Clinton and Gore used to cause massive traffic problems in cities they visited because of freeways being closed to regular traffic for security reasons. I think there was a case involving Gore where the freeway closures around Nashville caused such problems that emergency vehicles could not get a man to the hospital and he died as a result—but wouldn’t have if not for Gore. Of course that did not merit publicity like a story that could damage a Republican.

Putting “GWB” in the headline was done to place blame with Bush.

“Of course that did not merit publicity like a story that could damage a Republican.”

...Republican?! In name. Of course, considering the fact that this could damage “Republicans” in general, I would agree.

I don’t like Christie and I don’t want to sound cold hearted, but what is the life expectancy of a 91 year old woman? If my 91 year old mother collapsed with an apparent heart attack I would call a priest or a pastor. I would not call 911. That was the advice that the doctor gave to me. Performing CPR on the 91 year old woman would have broken her ribs and she would have died in pain.

You know, many times when the US President visits a city there have been similar traffic tie-ups.

Which is not to excuse petty political vengeance that comes on the backs of the citizens, but to question the scale of the traffic shut-downs for the President.

story that could damage a Republican

In this case, anything that damages a liberal nutcase like Christie helps.

Putting “GWB” in the headline was done to place blame with Bush.

People keep speculating this, but its nonsense.

The Star Ledger is a north Jersey newspaper. In New Jersey "GWB" or the "The GW" has meant George Washington Bridge for the last seventy years or so.

Sounds like you’re mentally prepared to be a part of the ObamaCare Panels.

“petty political vengeance”

Exactly. Puerile behavior by political figures (regardless of the person’s importance) having an adverse effect on the lives of uninvolved people.

She probably wouldn’t have died in pain, because her heart would have stopped already if you were doing CPR...but, yes if there is any lingering presence I would rather it be at peace, feeling the body embraced and hearing words of love.

How many times do people have to die?

What if it was a child that had a serious accident, and the first responders could not reach it because of the artificial delay? Would you be okay if a child died?

The point is not that a 91 year old woman died, the point is that a politician wanted to punish citizens, and somebody died in the process. That is the scandal.

re: a 91 year old woman. I live in an area where a lot of the residents have been here since the houses were built in the early 1950s. It’s inspirational how healthy, active and alert so many of them are. They are dying off, sure. but on their timetable, not anyone elses.

This may be the funniest thing I have seen in the past five years. Christie sucked up to Lord Obie after the hurricane, then dissed Romney at the Republican convention, pissed off the Tea partiers and suddenly became the front runner for the GOPe nomination for 2014. Now he has a miner scandal and the MSM is on it like a school of sharks with blood in the water. I just cannot help but laugh. At Christie, at the hypocritical media and at the gullibility of the American people.

Notice how the RATS didn’t throw Christie under the bus until the day AFTER he signed their NJ Amnesty bill, too? What a stooge!

but what is the life expectancy of a 91 year old woman?

What does it matter?

Is the value of a day of her life less to her than a day of yours or mine is to us?
Who can place a value on either?

It might be even more precious to her because of her age.

Isn't this the kind of value judgement based on age that we find so abhorant in Obamacare?
