The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits last week fell slightly more than expected, pointing to an economy that was continuing to gain steam.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits declined 15,000 to a seasonally adjusted 330,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists polled by Reuters had expected first-time applications to fall to 335,000 for the week ended January 4. The four-week moving average for new claims fell 9,750 to 349,000.

The first time jobless claims numbers last week was 339,000.

Now, it has "declined" by 15,000 to 330,000? Which means it was revised UPWARDS from 339,000 to 345,000.

It's fun with Thursday job numbers once again.

"UNEXPECTED" there, I said it first.

We’ve had good news on the job front probably 4 out of every 5 of these weekly reports for 4 years. Yet, somehow we haven’t seen the number consistently bounce between 330 and 360 thousand month after month for a couple years. It was above 400,000 in the worst of the downturn, but still isn’t approaching what used to be considered good.

How come there is no mention that the last two weekly reports were based on 4 day holiday weeks?

Macy’s just dumped 2500 and is closing 5 stores... an avalanche of closings will happen over the next few months... they can lie but it no longer works. Like globull warming... many Americans have come to the truth through pain and obvious provable data that PROVES that the government lies about everything. Keep it up boys... you are all building a huge RICO case for the future!

The job numbers (unemployment rate) for the month of December comes out tomorrow.... I’m willing to bet it will now “fall” below 7%.

I predicted 6 months ago the trend in business to convert workers to part time (29ers) and hire more part timers to backfill would improve the stats.

Another Obamacare “success” !!

Everyone has to remember that these numbers are WEEKLY.

So- a month’s worth is over 1 million NEW claims.

Then when Obama tells us all that unemployment is easing since ‘150,000 or 200,000’ “New” jobs have been created, you all can refute that with the fact that the net LOSS of jobs is close to a MILLION a MONTH.

Jobless claims fall as labor market firms

Then there is no reason to extend unemployment benefits.

Baloney.

Our media is useless at “informing” us about anything having to do with unemployment.

Both parties have sold us out.

Bring back American jobs. Now.

Yeah I know. I don’t believe anything that comes from the US government at this point. They lie at every level. I suspect that since having got caught cooking the unemployment numbers before the election with no consequences that they might as well just our right make up anything they want. As posted Happy Days are here again, businesses opening everywhere, no unemployment, we have full employment.

Now who are you gonna believe your friendly dicktator in the Presidential Palace or your lying eyes, hmmmm???

330,000 is a fairly low number historically - average since 1967 is 363,000 per week;

because it is all “seasonally adjusted” which statistically accounts for holidays.
