Detroit Police Chief: ‘Good Americans with CPLs translates into crime reduction’

Encouraging responsible, law-abiding Americans to carry concealed firearms for self-defense has the potential to reduce crime.

This is a widely held belief by the gun community. It is also one that is endorsed by Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

Last month, in an appearance on a local radio show, “The Paul W. Smith Show” on WJR, Craig voiced his support for allowing responsible citizens to carry.

“There’s a number of CPL holders running around the city of Detroit. I think it acts as a deterrent,” explained Craig, who appeared on the show on Dec. 19. “Good Americans with CPLs translates into crime reduction. I learned that real quick in the state of Maine.”

The home of 77 year old Detroit resident Willie White had been broken into 8 times. When number 9 happened, Willie was sitting facing the door in his lazy boy with a 12 gauge and "de porched" the punk when he kicked the door open.

Good. A very LIEberal, anti columnist here wrote an editorial on Sunday admitting the laws passed in the wake of Newtown are just about useless. I’m still in shock.

A good indication that we cannot give up on a full court press for our God-given rights.

I hope he’s ready for the backlash.

He’s changing citizen attitudes toward police too. He’s got police out raiding crack houses, re instituted stop and frisk, ended the idiotic virtual precinct crap, cutting the mayor’s security detail from 20 officers to 6.

I remember seeing some video of Kwame playing president with his 7 car motorcade and cops stopping traffic.

Okay, you have a bunch of citizens who have passed a background check and have passed a gun safety course. Why would you think there is a problem?

You can open carry in Detroit. This summer a friend introduced me to an elderly Detroiter. When we found him he was carrying a bag of groceries and had an AR-15 slung across his back.

Police turned down the street were we were a slowed way down to creep by. Funny thing is the fact that they were more interested in why my white ass was in that neck of the woods than they were the gun.

“...Craig voiced his support for allowing responsible citizens to carry.”

He still needs to get past this idea that citizens are “allowed” to carry. It’s a right, dammit! You don’t allow or disallow something that’s a right.

Yep, and they are taking a big chance walking out of there alive. Kind of like playing Russian Roulette.
