The War on Drugs was started by Nixon, and the actual prohibition of drugs was started in the 1930s after the prohibition of alcohol was ended, I think.
The militarization of the police has been going on for decades (Waco was during Bush1 and Clinton), the TSA was created under Bush II, during which time the Patriot Act was passed.
The Supreme Court has justices appointed by both GOP and Donks who continually give a green light to abusive police practices that any normal reading of the Bill of Rights would prohibit.
So, I would respectfully submit that while getting rid of Obozo would be a good thing for a huge variety of reasons it's not clear to me that it will do anything to reverse the USA turning into a police state. It seems like both parties are participating in the ratchet movement against the rights of citizens. GOPers often support "tough on crime" legislation, that includes expanded police powers, while the Donks attack every other form of civil rights imaginable, from property ownership to food regulation.
Would any of the current crop of GOP Presidenital hopefuls reverse any of this? Looking backwards: it was not an issue that McCain or Romney cared about. Looking forwards: Gov Christie Creme is an authoritarian, not sure about Scott Walker or the other Govs. Ted Cruz hasn't spent any time speaking out against the WOD (which many here on FR still support, I'm pretty sure).
So, it's worse than just Obama, sadly.
