Thirty years ago high tech companies would hire college grads and try them out for 2-3 years. They were looking for grads from good schools, good GPA and overall good appearance/performance at interview. They were looking for potential. Today they hold up a H-1B guy name Wang from China who has five years of work experience and tells US college grads can you compete in the following - work experience; lower pay; indentured to company for 7 years; afraid of pissing off management; no need for health insurance per Obamacare laws. Since you cannot, goodbye, come back when you can.

H-1Bs were designed so there would be few older American tech workers; many of the young ones from decades ago were replaced by H-1Bs. While certainly hurting young American tech workers, it also hurt the older ones.
