Maybe he could choose a line of work that pays better! We can expect the media to flood us with every "success" story they can find, while ignoring all the horror stories.

Yep. I know graphic artists which make a pretty good living. Of course, they have to do work which somebody actually wants to pay for and not just what "inspires them."
I'm guessing this guy is closer to the "vomit on canvas and call it art" school. The rest of us are just too dumb to appreciate his creative genius.

Well, as an artist, he should declare one painting a year as a “masterpiece”, worth say $50,000, and sent that painting to the IRS for his subsidy.

Maybe he could choose a line of work that pays better! John should take Nanzi's advice and write a novel, now that he is on welfare. John may think different when he has to go to Tijuana to get his health care, because, they are the only ones to accept Medi-Cal.
