Oregon Mother: I Can’t Afford Obamacare For Myself, 1-Year-Old Son (former "cheerleader")

PORTLAND, Ore. (CBS Seattle/AP) — One Oregon mother says that she is unable to afford health insurance for her and her 18-month-old son because it’s too expensive.

The woman — who wishes to remain anonymous — tells KOIN-TV that she originally championed President Barack Obama’s signature health care law because she thought it would help people in her situation.

“I’ve been a cheerleader for the Affordable Care Act since I heard about it and I assumed that it was designed for people in my situation,” she told KOIN. “I was planning on using the Affordable Care Act and I had done the online calculator in advance to make sure I was going to be able to afford it.”

Her husband works for a non-profit organization that pays for his health care, but the couple is unable to afford to have her and their son covered under his plan. And she’s been told their combined income is too much to qualify for a subsidized health care plan under Cover Oregon.

“It wasn’t until I started the process and got an agent that I started hearing from them I wasn’t going to qualify for subsidies because I qualify on my husband’s insurance,” she told KOIN.

I have no comment, other than to repeat my mantra, "No delaying ACA; it MUST stick to dems like coagulating blood."

It is always nice to see a liberal run over by the train we saw coming 3 years ago.

Healthcare was more affordable before the affordable healthcare act. There was also a lot less paperwork before the Paperwork Reduction Act.

“Healthcare was more affordable before the affordable healthcare act.”

Perfect bumpersticker or outgoing mail stamp.

“I’ve been a cheerleader for the Affordable Care Act since I heard about it and I assumed that it was designed for people in my situation,”

Oh it's designed for people in your situation alright.

You make to much to warrant a subsidy, but you don't buy insurance. And therefore you are a risk to the rest of us. If you need emergency care, the provider is going to have to provide it. And other health care buyers (us) will have to foot the bill.

So now, thanks to the democrats, you are required to buy an insurance policy and will pay increasingly steep penalties if you do not.

What's more, your options have been limited. You have to buy a Cadillac version. The rats had to support all the causes that could be supported with healthcare. So you get to pay for abortions and contraception.

Of course your deductibles are huge, but that's okay, the provider will now get paid the majority of their costs if you have catastrophic illness. While the credit agencies work to extract the other $5k or so from you.

No more freeloading for you!!

I'll bet the family could afford coverage through the husband's plan. She was counting on getting her and the kid's health care for free.

Tough luck, sista! Do what the rest of us do — scrimp, save and do without.

There is a solution ... get a divorce.

That’s basically it. She was hoping for “free” stuff (at other people’s expense of course). She only balked when she found out she wasn’t going to get her insurance purchased with OPM (Other People’s Money).
