I recall that now. I was going off memory, but in my notes I had written my opinion that the consulate was being 'surveilled'. Whether it was a genuine officer or not, it was surveillance. Your link says Sean Smith called him a guard not the police. That conforms better to my memory of the early stories. I thought it was said at the time that the 'spy' was one of the February 17th Martyr's Brigade that was hired for security but I may be mistaken about that.

Maybe it's a fine distinction with no real point to be made. There is a Fox News report from Sep. 12th, 2012 that says Smith's online message referred to the 'spy' as a policeman.
