Industry doesn’t SIGN the legislation...politicians DO NOT GET A PASS on this one!!!
No, legislation killed them.
In free market capitalism products and the business that produce them compete for customer..
You rig the system when you use the government to ban a product and leave the customer with only one choice..this is monopoly by government fiat
Incandescent light bulb 69 cents each
CFL $5.49 each
LED $12.89 each
hmmm I wonder why GE pushed this law
Ditto.
Between our Victorian era money pit and our barn, I've bought and installed over 150 LED bulbs.
That leaves 3 CFLs, 4 fluorescent tubes and two incandescent 3 way bulbs.
While it's saving us on our utility bill that wasn't the main reason for conversion.
When the SHTF I want to be able to run the entire house from one 2KW generator to make the fuel last longer, and eventually I want to take the house off the grid by getting more solar panels and nickel-iron Edison batteries.
I rest my case.
It’s my money, I’ll conserve it if I want to.
Funny thing is, GE was caught with its' pants down in respect to LEDs.
I've spent around $2000 on LEDs since they became available, and not a one was GE, because GE was too late getting them to market.
Excellent!
Heat up the skin enough, and yes... and so what, doc? Where has the leakage UV of commercial fluorescent lamps been scientifically shown to provoke cancer above the noise level?
As a mechanic or maintenance supervisor for over 40 years, we used to call them drop lights or trouble lights. If you drop 'em, you got trouble. That was when we used regular 100W bulbs.
When the rough service bulbs came into service, a four pack would last well over a year - if you didn't leave the lamp on the floor and back a car over it.
Also if you dropped the metal shield on your skin there was trouble! (100W generates a lot of heat.) I still have a scar to show from where I did that 30 years ago.
Herein lies one thing I've never understood.
How in the world the liberals co-opted the conservation idea.
Conservation, to conservative, conservative?
I'm about as die-hard a conservative on most issues as there is.
But I've never understood waste, be that government waste, waste of resources or waste of energy.
I've always recycled everything possible long before recycling became the darling of the lefties.
The way I look at it, every gallon of oil saved by solar heating our water is a gallon more to have fun with in our Unimog.
We should be able to have our cake and eat it too.
LED light bulbs are just a part of the energy non-wasting (conservative of energy) scheme.
No, it ain't! AMEN.
Yes, the light’s not the same, and I DON’T WANT MERCURY BULBS! These dirty rats! That Newcandescent site doesn’t have the various “flavors” of light I like, like the Reveal incandescent brand bulbs (with their more bluish “daylight” light), but I can re-get used to the old, traditional yellow incandescent light just fine.
I still have a scar I got in the late 70s too. Got the burn just above my left elbow when I rolled off my creeper.
Ditto.
Even though I've invest around $2000 in LED bulbs, for my own reasons, that's my business.
You, using what you do, is your business.
I have a real problem with the force of law, at the point of a gun being used and abused far beyond what our founders intended.
I also have a lifetime stash of incandescent bulbs I bought after I found out about the law and before LEDs became available.
There is no way I would have CFLs, beyond the few I bought to test them on our property for environmental reasons (mercury), and I can't stand the look of the light from them.
Now I'll sell off the stash as part of my retirement program.
Yeah, sort of why people in the late 19th century didn't whine about peak whale oil.
Most of my stash is Reveals.
Let me know when you want to buy some.
I’m with you...I really like CFLs, but the freedom to choose should have remained. Each person has their own needs and preferences, and only they know best what is most useful to them.
