Inside his neighborhood market, Mohamed S. Ahmed was screaming for help after a pair of armed robbers had left him bleeding.
Outside the northeast Minneapolis store, two men pounded on the window, trying to get back into the University Market after Ahmed managed to lock them out.
They seemed really agitated, super agitated, said Matt Dosser, who was walking by about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. At first, nothing made sense, then I saw the gun.
Dosser, who has a permit to carry a gun, reached for his own weapon.
One of the robbers turned around and looked at me, Dosser recalled. He stared at me. I had my weapon up. I didnt point the gun at the person. I had it at the ready, out of the holster.
His buddy said something to him, Dosser continued, and then he had this surprised look on his face, and they both ran to his vehicle and took off.
Dosser went into University Market, finding some of its contents overturned and Ahmed wounded and screaming on the phone to 911.
Ahmed had tried to fight off his attackers, Dosser said. One tried to distract him, and the other whacked him with a pistol, Dosser said. Somehow, he got them out of the store [and locked the door] and they were trying to get back in.
Dosser said Ahmed had the back of his skull split open pretty good.
Dosser calmed the store owner and finished the emergency call for him, making sure to tell the dispatcher what he looked like so officers would not mistake him for one of the attackers.

The Minneapolis police are just insane. The guy saves the life of the store owner and they go off on a rant about CCW.
Minnesota has a duty to retreat. The police can’t stand when they are shown to be cowards.
If I pull out a firearm, in defense of another, myself, or property, I will be aiming it at someone.
Not sure about MN law, just law here in TX.
The Second Amendment is there for a reason. Only hell-spawned traitors to United States work to remove or destroy that amendment.
Thanx for that info.
I do most of our shopping, and am seeing more and more ‘homeless’ sign holders. I know the Bible tells us to help, But concerns like being harmed if you open your window to do so has become more of an issue. I carry, but since I am now going to places that do not allow a weapon, it is not always possible. It makes me feel helpless not to be able to protect myself.
I had to look it up. In Indiana, we have the castle doctrine (to the curtilage, not just to the door) and Stand Your Ground.
Tyrants and criminals prefer unarmed victims.
One of the robbers saw Dosser and actually USED his brain for a moment. Dosser had a look about him that said: "Go ahead, sucker asshole use it; I'm ready for you." Or, something to that effect.
Good use of brain power. Too bad the robbers didn't use that brain power for something better. What a waste.
Well, of course they do. They are essentially cowards. Bullies are too. They haven't enough self-esteem to do anything else.
It's learned behavior. They learned it at home, watching and listening to mommy and daddy, reinforced by aunties and uncles. THEN they went to school and discovered that bullying worked in many cases.
When someone stands up to them, it's a HOOT to watch them whine, waver and vacillate. Whether it's physical or verbal, it's a hoot to watch. Run, baby, run; mommy is calling you. She wants to wipe your butt.
It is a common sense law here in Arkansas.
Exactly - too many think that if a gun is drawn it needs to be shot and the only good result is a dead perp. Some folks have a better sense of the situation and can be ready to inflict violence without going off "half-cocked".
“Dosser calmed the store owner and finished the emergency call for him, making sure to tell the dispatcher what he looked like so officers would not mistake him for one of the attackers.”
THIS!!
The very definition of “presence of mind”. If police are on the way, the very best thing is for them to know you are a “good guy”.
RETREAT: Arkansas Connecticut Delaware Hawaii Iowa Maine Maryland Massachusetts Missouri Minnesota Nebraska New Jersey New York North Dakota Ohio Pennsylvania Rhode Island Wisconsin Wyoming
I notice that California isn't in either of them.
From ASK: Attorney General Eric Holder has denounced Stand Your Ground and called for the law to be repealed.
The COMMENTS from this page tell the tale:
1. I would also like to add - white, black, blue, or green, they are all going to receive the same number of rounds to the chest.
2. Thank God I live in the free state of Mississippi!
3. you should go to A1 burger on Vernon and 7th ave. they have the best burgers in LA for $3.50
4. Stand darells ground
5. Ok let's take away are right to protect ourselves in are own homes... derp de derp
6. Ha! Yeah. I think a word needs to be invented. "Trayvoxhaustion" perhaps? Maybe not though. Too many letters there.
7. The only thing I might misjudge regarding a trespasser entering my home, are the number of bullets needed to eliminate the threat.
Here in Texas he would have been justified to have put both of the perps in 'the hole'.
That was my thought at first. But, after reading those three paragraphs again, I think it's more a matter of a poorly written article by an incompetent "journalist".
The writers ask leading questions and selectively print what fits their agenda. I'm betting that in a full, properly done interview Elder's comments would not have come across as they do here. They just printed the portion that makes the police appear anti carry. Had I been the reporter I'd have asked Elder if the police felt there were exceptions to the non-intervention advice. Which I bet he would have said yes. He can't be seen as encouraging vigilantism. Which is obviously not the case here & I don't think he was implying that it was.
good idea.MPLS SWAT even mistake their own and shoot them with their submachineguns.
Another ‘save’ by a CCW holder who shot no one. Surprised this story got any press coverage at all.
“hey are instructed not to intercede into a crime that is occurring”
BULL!!!
There is no such instruction!!!
If you’re protecting the life of an innocent victim, you’re doing the right thing!
