Lifelong resident of NYC and retired member of the NYPD. Can’t stand Nanny Bloomberg and he is guilty of being all of the names called in previous posts, but he was smart enough to retain almost all of Giuliani’s police policies. The murder rate going from 2,200 to 320 is an unbelievable statistic. I’ll give you two more. Remember Fort Apache, The Bronx? The 41 pct in the REAL South Bronx had 42 murders 20 years ago when Giuliani took over. To date, this year.....2! The 46 pct where I worked in the early 80’s. Two years when I worked there, 154 murders, the last 2 years, 21.
If anyone needs to take a bow, its Ray Kelly. The Nanny had enough sense to let Ray Kelly run the show. No reason to beat his chest.
Did NYC *really* have 2,200 murders in a year? When? Under Dinkins? Koch? LaGuardia?
Assuming the mayor has the power to hire and fire the Police Commissioner then the mayor,IMO,deserves at least *some* of the blame if things go badly, crime wise...and some of the credit if things go well.So maybe a quick bow might be in order.
Isn’t it more accurate to say that the people that were committing crimes in the Bronx moved to Union City?
How much would those crime statistics actually change if you included parts of CT and NJ?
