Looking at the picture there of the front of the school, something just occurred to me:

The classroom that he was in when police arrived had a full panel of glass windows facing the parking lot.

They didn’t necessarily have to go into the school to shoot him. They could have shot him through the windows.

The architectural “style” was “Early WPA!” Just like most New England public buildings.
