Homosexuality was illegal and is immoral for a very good reason. It is a dangerous threat to any society which tolerates it. During the founding era of this nation, the normal punishment for sodomy was death.
This has nothing to do with passing God's judgement on others, it has to do with dealing with a very real and deadly threat to a society.
You may or may not be aware of the "Cambridge Club" and the treason they committed against England at exactly the same time as Alan Turing was engaging in the same aberrant sexual behavior.
And this does not even address the aspect of how much disease they keep spreading through society. Millions have died as a result of homosexual disease spreading. If you calculate the consequences of what happens when you tolerate it, the punishment meted out to Turing doesn't look so unreasonable.

In my opinion, it is important to not only proclaim loudly that this was wrong but as well proclaim loudly why it was wrong. This man was abused & violated, his human rights were violated -human rights premised solely upon him being human. The same human rights that the unborn possess -the rights that are not premised upon who they are or what sexual activities they may or may not engage in.
He was an intelligence officer with the highest secret clearances. He would have been subject to action had he been caught with a female street prostitute. The fact that homosexual activity only brought the conviction and the use of chemical hormone shots to curb his libido. He chose that instead of jail time. People where prosecuted and jailed for rum running in the 20's as well.
Philby was straight. As was McLean. As was Cairncross.

Sexual deviance indicates a twisted mind. A twisted mind is a liability in matters of proper state concern. Or was, at any rate. I haven’t heard how this guys predilections came to the attention of the state or why he was made an example of since there is not now nor was there then any shortage of known homosexuals.
