(Louisiana) Gov. Jindal responds to A&E decision on Robertson
The (Baton Rouge, LA) Advocate ^ | December 19, 2013 | Staff

Gov. Bobby Jindal has come to the defense of “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson, who has been placed on “hiatus” from the hit A&E reality series over remarks identifying gays as sinners akin to adulterers and swindlers.

“Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana,” Jindal said in a statement published Thursday morning on Office of the Governor website. “The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended “

Robertson’s remarks where made in an interview for the January issue of GQ magazine.

http://www.thenewsstar.com/article/20131219/NEWS01/312180043/A-E-suspends-Robertson-over-anti-gay-remarks

New 5th Congressional District U.S. Rep. Vance McAllister, R-Swartz, who was supported by the Robertsons during his campaign, said Wednesday reporters were even asking him about Robertson’s remarks.

“The first thing I’m going to ask Phil is, ‘Why in the world were you talking to GQ magazine?,’” McAllister said. “But this is America, where you get to say what you believe and what’s in your heart.”

When asked if he agreed that homosexuality is a sin, McAllister said, “It’s not my place to judge anyone. Everyone has to live by their own values.”

I think a part of this issue is also religious freedom. In that, there are no mainstream religions which endorse homosexuality, or perform homosexual marriages. As homosexual marriage becomes more mainstream, I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop, for the liberals to sue to try to force churches to adhere to homosexuality or be destroyed.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

I told everybody here before the election that McAllister was a RINO lightweight. Now we’re stuck with him until next year.

Although as their employer A&E has the right to hire & fire anyone they choose, they cannot claim that Robertson did anything to hurt their brand. This firing was purely because he had a personal opinion they found objectionable.

“I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment.”

This is not the issue. TV Networks are private enterprises. People make this erroneous conflation too often.

I think this is the article from GQ:

http://www.gq.com/entertainment/television/201401/duck-dynasty-phil-robertson

However, there are two things they accuse him of saying and I cannot find the 2nd. The first is him saying how he cannot understand why any guy would chose a butt over the woman part. He says it in a more crass way, but other than that, it's his opinion and I agree with him.

The 2nd accusation is that he said that homosexuality and bestiality were the same, but I cannot find a single mention of the word in the article so I'm not sure where that one is coming from.

That’s the part that frustrates me! It seems like most of the hubbub is coming from the 2nd comment, which is not found in the article.

You know...Phil also mentioned heterosexuals who behaved adulterously as well...but I don’t see the “swingers” rising up the way the homosexuals are!

The answer to your question is that the liberals are making up things from this interview, to make it sound outrageous.

The liberals have decided to go into full meltdown mode over this, and want to make it sound as if this guy connects homosexuality to other bizarre activities. They want to demonize the guy. That’s what’s happening.

“In that, there are no mainstream religions which endorse homosexuality, or perform homosexual marriages.”

Actually, the Episcopalian church has an openly gay bishop.
Gene Robinson was ordained a few years ago and it caused many to leave the Anglican flock.

Political correctness is placing a straightjacket on free speech, honest discourse and the expression of opinion. Ultimately it stifles thought and creativity. A network that calls itself “Arts..” and practices crude censorship is a fraud.

Coward...but it's basically the same answer the Pope gave to the same question. See Holy Father...your thoughtless words have conswquences.
