...Americans in the private sector who buy health insurance through the Obamacare exchanges get a federal subsidy (a tax credit) only if their income/family size puts them below 400% of the poverty threshold, or $94,200 for a family of four. If they surpass that 400% level, they do not get a subsidy.

Unless their employer cancels their insurance and puts the employees in the exchange. Then the employer can provide a contribution to the employees in the exchange, so that the employer does not have to pay the big fines otherwise due for not having their own insurance.

Frankly, I think it was stupid for the republicans to add the “join the exchange” amendment to the bill. It helps the exchange by providing high-paying people. It makes it look more legitimate. It gives them all more incentive to MAKE THE EXCHANGE WORK. When what we want is for them all to be in their own program, so they could care less if the exchange fails, because we want obamacare to fail.
