In October Christians erected a towering Christ statue at the Cherubim Monastery in the community of Saidnaya, Syria.
The statue is taller than the Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The statue can be seen from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Israel.

The height of the bronze statue is 39 m together with the plinth, which is taller than the statue of the Christ in Rio de Janeiro (38 m). One can see the sculpture from Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Israel. (Public Radio of Armenia)

This past week Islamists attacked the monastery and fired on the towering statue.

Raymond Ibrahim reported:

Earlier this month, the Islamist-led opposition in Syria broadcast a video clip of a militant threatening the nation’s Christian minority, with a focus on the Cherubim monastery and the large Jesus statue recently erected in the region of Saidnaya in Damascus.

In the video, images of militants firing rockets at the ancient monastery and setting the building on fire appear (confirmed elsewhere). The Christ statue also appears being targeted, though it is unclear if it was damaged.

The 128-foot tall bronze Christ statue, christened “I have come to save the world,” was recently erected in war-torn Syria, with support from the Russian Orthodox Church.

Throughout the video clip, Islamic chanting is heard and Koran verses recited, including those vowing destruction to all polytheism (shirk), a reference to Christianity.

It only took the Islamists two months before they attacked the statue and monastery.

So over in Syria, terrorists work to remove Christian symbols from the landscape. In this country, courts work to remove Christian symbols from the landscape.

Interesting parallels.

Very astute observation.

Christianity is under attack, and this country is supplying the weapons. In Syria, Al Qaeda, in America the ACLU and atheists. Both supported by the Obama administration.

Do not ever tell me Obama is not a Muslim.

It is well past time for a series of new crusades to the Middle East. We could use some here, as well, to scour the territory.
