Islamist rebels killed at least 15 civilians from the minority Alawite and Druze sects in the central Syrian city of Adra on Wednesday and Thursday, the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The Alawites, also known as Alawis (ʿAlawīyyah Arabic: علوية‎) are a prominent mystical religious group centred in Syria who follow a branch of the Twelver school of Shia Islam. The Druze (Arabic: درزي, derzī or durzī‎, plural دروز, durūz; Hebrew: דרוזים, "druzim") are a monotheistic ethnoreligious[7] community, found primarily in Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan. Druze beliefs incorporate several elements from Abrahamic religions, Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, Pythagoreanism, and other philosophies. The Druze call themselves Ahl al-Tawhid "the People of Monotheism" or al-Muwaḥḥidūn "the Unitarians". Druze is an offshoot of Ismailism, a branch of Shia Islam. Druze follow the seven pillars of Ismailism. There are five major sects in Islam: 1.Shia 2.Hanafi 3. Maliki 4.Shafi`ee 5.Hanbali. The oldest and the nearest Islamic sect to The Holly Prophet(p.b.h.f) is Shia. Because they are the followers of Ali-ibn-Abi-Talib(a.s) and the Prophet(p.b.h.f) himself named them as Shia. Ali(a.s) was the cousin of The Holly Prophet(p.b.h.f) and The prophet was Ali`s father in law. Ali(a.s) was martyred at 41(After Hijrah). But the other muslim sects are founded about 100 to 200 years after passing away of The Holly Prophet(p.b.h.f). So the oldest and nearest Muslim sect to The Holly Prophet(p.b.h.f) is Shia.
