Yes, because it isn’t true.
In fact, the law has been strengthened twice in favour of the victim/homeowner in the last ten years. And this myth bases itself mainly on the Tony Martin case, which I and others have explained. Also, the US myth of no Limey self-defence also in based on the British procedure of police investigation, which again I and others have explained.
It is perfectly legal to defend yourself and your home/property in the UK. This idea we aren’t is a myth.
BTW, as some here know, I myself was the 2008 victim of a burglary and assault, so I KNOW this myth is bunkum.
Is it not the usual practice here to subject media reports to intelligently sceptical scrutiny, rather than simply to 'pass them on'?
