CNSNews.com -- In a message sent to the Americas on Dec. 12, a day the Catholic Church celebrates in honor of the Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, Pope Francis, who was named Person of the Year this week by Time magazine, said that America is called to be a land prepared to accept life at every stage, from the mothers womb to old age.
The Pope made his remarks during the course of the weekly general audience on Wednesday, and the message for the Americas was subsequently broadcast on Vatican Radio.

Well, all of the sophists have eulogized Mandela, why doesn’t he include the abortion industry in that country as well?
I bet Time didn’t publish this fact!
Wow.. what century is he living in?
**Marys embrace showed what America North and South is called to be: a land where different peoples come together; a land prepared to accept human life at every stage, from the mothers womb to old age; a land which welcomes immigrants, and the poor and the marginalized, in every age. A land of generosity, said the Pope.**
but in the meantime...tell them to get their butt in gear like the rest of us. We're sick of paying their way while they're drinking booze, gambling, selling drugs and passing on HIV....and taking their girls to the clinics to kill the baby.
Killing nascent human life is simply barbaric.
Perhaps because the focus was on the Americas, since the occasion was the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas.
Our poor people aren’t poor compared to various rural and urban poor people in other parts of the Americas. I had a Peruvian friend who used to work for their public health service and went to poor people’s homes. Granted, it was back in the 80s and they have done better since then, but she saw people living in very makeshift hovels. One home had a three and 6 year-old home by themselves all day, with a bowl of rice or something to eat. And the little girls were just supposed to stay put until their parents could get home from work.
I think it’s grinding poverty that the Pope has in mind, not the relative comfort our poor have.
When speaking of “America” in conjunction with the Virgin of Guadalupe, it usually connotes the entire western hemisphere.
Agreed, but America is a big target that is hard to miss.
